Not sure why this game is so lauded
Looking for a youtube top 7 or something of games that might be good if they had a first person mode. This, Arkham [insert random word], Red Faction Guerilla etc etc. If we weren't watching our player dope move around as though in treacle as he blocks 20-40% of the screen most of the time this might even be good, as the simple fix for mouse control worked perfectly for me (it may not for everyone) and made the slicey gameplay sporadically fun. I'd rather a sequel to Tiny And Big for that though (better slicey gameplay there but it's only cutting rocks). Health gauge on the character? A completely dumb idea, it's important information that should be always visible, not maybe hidden depending on the in-game action. I suppose at least they're not doing the jam-around-the-screen-edge thing. No tension, just jump scares. It's descibed as "Survival Horror" but really much more just deserves the horrible, meaningless "Action Game" tag that's often used; there's so much ammo and so many upgrades around that it's more inventory management than anything else. The locked-in-a-room-while-your-teammates-do-plot/get-murdered-while-all-you-can-do-is-watch moments are too predictable, as are the jump scares. The voice acting does not help at all, I did wonder at times if it was all just culled from an unmemorable film I'd seen in the 90s. It's System Shock with no ambition (thanks @schickimicky , that describes it perfectly). That said, when it's on offer there is £5 worth of entertainment here. The environments are functional if lacking any identity, and when not needlessly hemmed in or watching plot it has its moments of fun. 40-60% of a good game here, hence 2 stars. - Having seen and played the recent Prey does make me wonder if the creators of this are now just embarrassed. That has tension, and creep, and design and alien unpleasantness that I suspect the creators of this might have hoped for. Better luck next time mayb...oh, ok then.
