DARQ: Complete Edition

Darq is a fantastic puzzle game. Just like the title suggests, it's got an extremely gloomy atmosphere, some scare jumps here and there, and boasts a certainly dark sense of humour at times. However, do not let the tags misguide you, there's barely any action or adventure here, 99% of the game, and its main selling point is puzzles. While I don't know if they are pioneering this type of puzzle, I found them to be very original and fun to solve. There have been a few times when I got stuck, but it was my fault for not trying certain navigation options. You see, in Darq you get to navigate the different chapters in all 3 dimensions, which means your character may have to go towards you. While it won't jump out of the screen, it will reveal areas of the map that you didn't know existed. Sound, graphics, some gruesome artwork and scenes tie it all together making this a very cohesive and artistically sound game; it reminds me a bit of the film "Nightmare before Christmas" by Tim Burton. The complete edition comes with 2 DLCs. Each of these is the equivalent of a chapter and they are a nice addition to the 6 the base game comes with. If there's anything I can hold against Darq is its length vs the current price. I find £16 to be a little steep considering you can finish the game in a few hours and there isn't that much replay value other than trying to complete all the achievements, since the puzzles will be the same every time. Still, your time will be well spent here; highly recommended. 9/10.

This is a good puzzle-solving game. It took me only 1.5 hours to complete, and of those, I've seen maybe 10 seconds of horror and 2 minutes of action, so don't get your hopes up looking at the "genre" and the "description" sections. This is also the reason for a low rating - I was led to believe this game woud be something it is not. If you are a fan of 3D puzzles, this game could be 3 or even 4 out of 5 stars for you. If you are looking for a mixture of actual horror, action, and adventure, you'd be better off with e.g. Downfall: Redux by Harvester Games / Screen 7.

I only found out about this game when the developer announced that they would not be enticed by Epic games for an exclusivity deal that would upset their other potential customers (STEAM and GOG) and bought it to support a developer that obviously cares about their customers and reputation. I am glad I did because this is a great puzzle game and although a few reviewers have mentioned it is a bit short, (which I agree with, more please) I feel the price of the game reflects that well. Keep up the good work UNFOLD GAMES, I am looking forward to seeing more from you.

I really like adventure games with puzzles, but they need to bring something new with them, a peculiar type of originality, which escapes the traditional, and most importantly: that they get a harmonious combination. Fortunately, "DARQ" does this with great skill. The aesthetics and atmosphere sound like a marriage between the classic movie "The Nightmare Before Christmas" and the equally revered game "Limbo", which makes "DARQ" very immersive and elegant. The puzzles are very well designed, and never seem boring. Despite the obvious difficulty of some, it is really fun to solve them, something very rare to happen in games of this genre, which most of the time end up alienating the player. I think it's unique the way the scenario dialogues with the background, mainly due to the depth of the 3D models. This translates into moments of tension, scares and many surprises. Despite being short (it took me 7 hours to win the game, its two DLC and get 100% of the achievements), I think it's important to point out that "DARQ" does something that has been increasingly difficult to happen with games lately, and that is precisely to deliver EXACTLY what was proposed, and this is far from trivial. If you like games of this genre, I dare say that it's almost impossible not to enjoy this title, and once a work can be satisfactory from start to finish (allowing legitimate and consistent fun for the player), I understand that the goal was achieved, the which culminates in a solid and highly recommendable product.
