Lots of pros, one major con
Despite the many different opinions on Darkest Dungeon due to its difficulty, lore, unforgiving randomised nature and whatever else has surrounded this game I decided to get it while it was on deal believing it would kill some hours for a low low price. As with most games declared to be too difficult and unforgiving the problem lies with the expectation of what the game offers. This game is supposed to be unfair, if you can ignore the nature of this where it's actively attempting to foil your plans with random criticals at the worst possible time it's pretty fun. However what I cannot forgive is the amount of grinding required to progress through the game. I've spent what must be over 30 hours on one playthrough and I'm not even halfway yet because of the sheer amount of grind required to improve your characters and upgrade the town. Any game, whether it be Darkest Dungeon or the multitude of MMOs that pad their playtime with weeks upon weeks of grinding to make the bare minimum of progress is not fun. Repeating the same actions and missions, trying to scrouge up enough heirlooms to upgrade your town services is not fun. Grinding is the bane of video games akin to gambling. If you aren't willing to sink 30+ hours into repeating the same missions with low level characters then you should not buy this game. It's a real shame where an otherwise fantastic game is let down by one aspect to pad the playtime.
