2.0 is a great sendoff to the game after a troubled launch. Phantom Liberty is a very good story packed with good characters and writing. 5/5 overall for the entire game and Phantom Liberty.
To counter the DRM-free crowd: the complaint is probably valid (my galaxy works and I'm not opposed to using it, so I can't test it). And equally likely it's not intentional behavior, just lack of testing. I'd wait for first patch before review bombing, reviews are easy to post and almost impossible to change later. But whatever.
The game itself is fine. Some changes in 2.0 are questionable, mainly the level scaling. I'm firm opponent of it, it usually breaks any sense of progression. Now every level means you have to catch up to opponents instead of getting stronger... But CP implementation is far from the worst I've seen (looking at you, Morrowind/Oblivion). It's not too hard to keep up with enemies, it just gets little bland after a while. Loads of new weapons, and tons of iconic. So many that everything feels watered down. There is no real reason to look at anything other than iconic, and between them, there is also no real reason to choose one over another of the same category. Other changes feel neutral or good.
The story on the other hand is excellent. Especially the last real main quest mission (Cynosure path, I have yet to try the other one). Excellent mechanics, and really heart wrenching to decide what should happen at the end.
Technical state: there ARE bugs. Quest follow-up directs me to a guy selling hotdogs in garage to receive my reward, but the garage remains closed. There is achievement for getting max wanted level in Dogtown - but no matter who I attack, I can't get even single wanted star. Not to mention bugs remaining from base game (shooting grenade in air with revolver - I have shot down maybe 50 grenades without unlocking anything. Maybe I have to use new char instead of the one that remembers 1.0). All of them minor, main quest worked for me fine.
Not the most polished release ever, but good enough to have many hours of fun. Looking forward for 2.01
Great expansion to an already great game. Dogtown is beautiful, fun to explore, 2.0 combat and gameplay suit the environment perfectly and the story is gripping all the way through.
That said… bit of a sod to get the gog version running on my steam deck, wish there was more Linux support.
Already liked the base game and Phantom Liberty manages to top it. Great story, great characters and locations, awesome gameplay with the 2.0 update. I really feel like a ninja with my Katana/throwables build, optical camo and the insane mobility with the air dashes that also restore stamina as well as leaping towards your enemies with Katanas and Mantis Blades.
What I also liked even better than in the base game was the music. It made me feel like the main character in an action/spy movie, especially during the fights.
To all developers who had a part in making this: thank you for this awesome experience!
Last but not least, the game looks and runs great on my GTX 1080 with AMD FSR 2.1 on Quality. And so far, I didn't have any crashes or major bugs.
The expansion pack has a bunch of new gigs that all have a little more substance to them than even better gigs in the basegame, and are very fun to play. Most (all?) of them have multiple outcomes so there's replayability and personal expression in them as well. The new guns range from 'okay' to 'very fun' to use and if you like iconics then there's several new ones to play with. The added cars also give a good selection of choices if you like to shoot vehicle mounted weapons at people.
As for the story the actors do well, the storybeats are presented compentently and are engaging, and the setpieces you engage with are varied and fun - though a few of them, notably one where you cover another character with a sniper, suffer from the age-old problem of looking through a scope for 20 minutes isn't fun. There's also pretty obvious seams where scripted segments such as dialogue or NPCs walking between locations, which makes some of the more complex story elements; very clunky. There's at times a delay between dialogue is stated by a character, and until the trigger for V to respond becomes available. V will often also be required to stand in one extremely specific spot to be allowed to respond or interact with items, which may be a bug because it affects non-PL content as well.
Overall it's a really solid expansion pack, well worth its price if you like the basegame, and if it is the last content that CP2077 gets it's a good sendoff - but not perfect. My personal pet peeve is that there still isn't an iconic MG in the game. There is also an argument that playing the 1.6 patch is preferable to playing the 2.0 patch and as such you'd be gated off from playing PL if so.
There is one big issue with this content that can not be discussed without severely spoiling the story, so instead I'll just say that if you require the technology in a setting to make sense, be explained, and not be magic; you will find Phantom Liberty intensely frustrating compared to the base game.
