Clive Barker's Undying

Old school horror shooter that takes Clive Barker's style of cosmic horror for nice ride. Good challenge and great story.

Once upon a time I played this with a friend and we got all the way to the final boss (so I've been told - never did complete it) I recall using my original disc to play on Windows 10, so I don't think there's been much magic to getting it to work. However it's still nice to see this provided by GOG though! Holds up really well. Very good classic horror atmosphere! Looking forward to eventually completing it once I've 100% everything, which is tough in this one - lots of exploration to be done and lots of lore to read.

What this game nails is the atmosphere. The main setting is a huge mansion and it feels like a maze. Sadly, everything is weighted down by the terrible selection of weapons. None of the weapons are really good, nor do they cater to play style. The main problem is the random hitboxes. Sometimes you can kill an enemy in two shots to the head, other times they take 5-6 bullets. Same thing with the only melee weapon, which is fun to use, but every weapon is way too slow, compared to how the enemy can close distance. Overall, a kinda confusing experience with lots of potential, but it should've chose between either focusing on gameplay or story.

Still holds up today. Good gameplay, good story, no patches.

Interesting weapons, unusual monsters, and (with one exception) entertaining boss fights--Undying is a creepy and enjoyable horror FPS. The graphics hold up well, and the sound effects are fantastic. The story, however, is rather pedestrian, with a bunch of loose ends and a garbled ending. Still, well worth a play through for any horror buff.
