Sounds like...

I've read a random selection of the reviews, both good and bad, and from what I can tell this sounds a lot like an indi horror title that I found about 10 years ago called the white chamber. You awake from a stasis chamber and have to Investigate why you are alone on a simi-functional starship that seems to be the site of a bloodbath. It is actually not a bad game, just slow and very predictable... so I think I'll give this one a pass, eh?

Immersive and disturbing...

First point : this game is free, so why read this commentary and download it first ;) I played Cayne in the dark, because the ambience is horror and strange. The story is immersive and interesting. Yes, you arrive quickly to the end and you follow the scenario, but the dark danger of the environnementa and the situation will make you paranoïd and stressed. My bads points are : the interactivity, the slowness of your character (but eh, pregnancy is a good excuse) and the absence of some explinations. Fans of games like Planescape Torments and Torments Tides of Numerana (particullary), you will like Cayne.

Great visuals, but lacks depth and logic

First of all - this game is free, at least if you don't buy the deluxe package. If you like the horror genre and point-and-click adventures which are not too hard to solve, play it. Still unsure? Read on. The game itself is quite short, depending on your adventures experience it'll take you 3 to 5 hours for a complete playthrough. It is set in the same "universe" as Stasis, some kind of sidestory, but mostly unrelated to the other game's events. Visually, the game is on par with many other recent isometric adventure games, using a mix of pre-rendered backgrounds, 3D characters and short video cutscenes. You play Hadley, a pregnant women which was brought to a Cayne Corporation facility againt her will. After barely escaping a deadly "fetus extraction procedure", Hadley tries to escape the desolated research facility. On her way, there are a lot of PDAs to find, containing much of the story's content in the form of personal diaries. This way of telling the story fits, but there are many gaps in the narration and some hints on Stasis which you won't understand if you haven't played that game. You still need to read the PDA texts, as they sometimes contain hints for the puzzles. Sadly, if you later look for a specific information, you need to walk to and use each PDA again, as there is no readily accessible journal. The puzzles are relatively easy to solve. Useable items are well highlighted on the screen. Some puzzles aren't really logical, like -SPOILER- using fine protein powder on an ID card to craft a replacement fuse out of it. As noted before, some hints are well-hidden in the PDAs, so read them carefully and take notes of any numbers you encounter to safe yourself long, slow walks through all the rooms. The ending is also relatively unsurprising, yet quite unsatisfying as it leaves some open questions. There are some secrets in the game. If you like to get the permanent achievements for those, play CAYNE on Steam where it's also free.

I love it.

Really good puzzle game, like some puzzles game it have hard puzzles that don't make sense, but just see an walkthrough and pass the impossibles parts.

Great spin-off for Stasis!

CAYNE is a cinematic space horror game, much like the developer's previous game STASIS. It's obviously shorter but still, can't believe they actually released this for free! It's as high quality as a regular game, with great voice acting, well-made environments and a disturbing storyline taking you deeper into the horrible work of the Cayne Corporation. Definitely recommended to play after STASIS of course, so that you understood the full context of this free prequel. It plays about the same, although I do think they made some good upgrades for the inventory system. The PDAs look better as well, with an easier way to go through them. I recommend this to people who enjoyed STASIS and of course space horror in general! It's free so you got nothing to lose but your time investment.
