Wake up in a world with no recollection of how you got there. A world full of secrets, hidden rooms, dungeons and towns. Cathedral features a vast world, meant for exploring!

Make your way through more than 600 rooms, and unravel the secrets of your past by finding the five elemental orbs. The orbs, placed in ancient times by the demi-god known only as Ardur, is protected by five fearsome guardians. Make your way through their dungeons, meet them head-on in combat, and see if you can best them!

Cathedral is a pretty good Metroidvania-style game that can be difficult at times, though that tends to come with the genre.  That said though, the game looks great and for fifteen dollars, I'd say its definitely worth picking up.  As for me, I'll definitely be taking another trip through the game down the road.

Cathedral's real sin is that there's not much to make it distinct from other Metroidvanias on the system. It nails the retro look and the need for exploration. The lack of handholding is refreshing, and the combat is rather good, especially for the boss fights. It doesn't have anything else to pull in players, aside from the fact that the world you traverse is absolutely huge. If you're a genre fan who wants something new yet familiar to work with, Cathedral is the right game.

Love the game, but it is too hard

In the style of the old Wonder Boy in Monster Land this is great! The art, music, and level design is top notch! The controls are also very tight, for a Wonder Boy clone.. BUT. it can be incredibly punishing at times.. lots of rooms have needlessly many enemies and they have a penchant of spawning flying enemies when you have to do jumping thats its not even fair. You cant even avoid the enemies since they just gang up and follow you through the whole room! The fast travel and checkpoint system is also needlessly spaced out. You end up running through several areas anyway to get where you want, wasting lots and lots of time and money (from dying again and again just to travel to a new place) So, again. i LOVE this game, but i also HATE it!

Очень сложная игра

Это очень интересная, но в тоже время О-О-ОЧЕНЬ сложная игра! Сам игровой процесс затягивает. Различные квесты увлекают, приходится поломать голову. Жаль нет русского перевода, но впечатления от игры это не портит, так как по ходу игры становится понятно, что нужно делать дальше. НО! Сложность боссов просто зашкаливает! Если с первым боссом можно справиться достаточно легко, то далее просто КОШМАР! Конечно, я не самый сильный игрок и не смог пройти даже второго босса - гаргулию (Тупо сломал гэймпад). Но со сложностью разработчики явно перемудрили!

Fantastic metroidvania

The map is vast and full of explorative potential, the level design is great with a bit of Castlevania 1-3 energy behind it (though more forgiving I'd say), and charming art style

Led down by roque-like and controls

The game is not bad in particular. It manages to keep you interested although it's a constant source of frustration due to the roque-like part. Basically you can't win with skill alone, it's impossible by math. If you walk into a situation unprepared, for most enemys, even the weak, you are a 1-hit until you managed to purchase/find the right upgrade/perk for that area. The story is almost non-existing. Some jump-and-run sections are actually quick-time-events in disguise. There are also control issues. On the Linux Version the Left Stick of the XBOX360 controller resets position occasionally and you just stop, always seen at cut scenes. This is particular annoying during boss fights as you have to let go of the Stick and then move into the desired direction again. Therefore 2 Stars. The title could be 4 Stars if it was correctly balanced and the roque-like part reworked/removed.

A discrete product

Cathedral won't revolutionize the explorative platformer/metroidvania sphere, with its strong artistic inspiration to retro titles and a lack of solid story, but it is capable of entertaining right up to the end credits.
