Действия пиратского боевика «Приключения Капитана Блада» разворачиваются в XVII веке на территории Испанского Мэйна. Станьте грозным флибустьером и отправляйтесь на поиски золота и славы. Бороздите моря, стреляйте из пушек и пистолетов, размахивайте мечами и развлекайтесь, как подобает пиратам. В этом динамичном слэшере вас ждут ожесточённые рукопашные битвы, полчища врагов и классическая боевая система с эффектными комбо и добивающими ударами.

Been playing some time, and it´s really not good at all, kind of like those ol lord of the rings games. For example there is this annoying rifle man that basically mostly hit. enemies that stunlock you, and worse of all from what i played. extremely naging crew mates. enemies at the starboard! or similar, driving you completely insane. spongy bosses with lazy design. aka. send regular enemies..
...but who said that's a bad thing?!
Captain Blood is a lively action adventure game that can still provide enjoyment today. Although the game went through "development hell", it has surprisingly aged well. The visuals are pleasing to the eye, the characters have charisma, and the gameplay keeps you engaged. Moreover, we don't often see truly enjoyable and atmospheric pirate-themed games. So this game is quite capable of drawing you in for 10-12 hours.
I remember the trailers for this game as vividly as the announcement I'd never get to play it...but somehow years later Captain Blood is back!
And it's a nostalgic blast. It's slippy, ridiculous, and bombastic but it feels so comfortably of it's time: the era of God of War and Devil May Cry where spectacle fighters were flashy and madcap.
Not as nihilistic as GOW or consciously 'cool' as DMC, Captain Blood is more about telling a story between arena bouts that break down to keeping massive amounts of enemies at bay with abilities and improvised weapons as well as your trusty blunderbuss. You can collect coins to buy more moves and items in a store located in the menu for some reason, but it does make killing enemies more than just removing obstacles. It is very fun to pull off combo attacks, grapple and finish off foes, and there are different kinds of enemies to mix up encounters, some which require certain attacks or strategies to take down.
So if you don't mind a couple holdovers of the past (fixed cameras, a couple bugs) this is a grand ol' time!
This is basically a trimmed down pirate version of God of War 3 with World of Warcraft graphics. The right analog stick controls your dodge rolls, X and Y are your light and heavy attacks for combos, B fires your gun, and A blocks. Since the right analog stick makes you dodge, that means no camera controls.
I think the graphics and animations are great, if you like that style. The QTEs are present but they are so easy you'll only fail a few of them the first time. I'm not a fan of QTEs and these are a bit frequent, but the fail state only sets you back a few seconds most of the time and you can also just mash all the face buttons when you see a prompt without penalty.
You can upgrade your character including health, combos, pistol shots, and executions. Executing enemies can fill your rage bar, steal the enemy's weapons, or drop extra money.
The game isn't super long, which I appreciate. I decided to play on hard since most people were beating the game around 6 hours. On hard it took me about 10 hours, so I feel like I got a little more playtime that way. Hard is a good challenge, but rarely frustrating.
The only thing I felt was "outdated" was the lack of camera controls. There are levels where you need to see 360 degrees around, but you have to move your character around to get the camera to turn where you want it. That part can be frustrating.
My final criticism is that there isn't much replayability. There weren't any unlockables or anything that I could tell. There's achievements, but that's about it. I'm fine with the length of the game, but I do wish it had a good reason to pull me back in.
I've seen other reviews talk about glitches and janky animations. I played on SteamOS using Proton and I didn't experience any glitches other than your standard clipping and a little bit of z-fighting with a few ground textures.
Personally, I miss games like this. It's simple and there isn't much friction to just getting into the game and having fun. If you like a game that you can jump right in and not have to worry about heavy tutorials, talent trees, crafting, and other distracting RPG mechanics that infect every game now, then this will scratch the itch.
