Play Gabriel Knight instead

I played a lots of adventure games of the golden age. Loom, Maniac Mansion, Monkey Island, King's Quest, you name it. When Broken Sword was released, I kinda hoped to find the great Gabriel Knight's saga successor. Boy was I disappointed. First of all, this is a "tourist game": absolutely no historical accuracy. Paris looks like a village build around the Eiffel Tower, french policemen are dressed like how they used to in the second half of the XIXth century, Ireland is just a pub surrounded by green pastures... Did you just say "cliché"? Even worse, the whole intrigue about the templars doesn't even make sense, you never really get to know what they attempt to do (take off the world, obviously, much like the purple tentacle in Day of the Tentacle) but you don't know why or even how. Now, the game is cute and very colourful. A pop-corn game, but only play it if you have nothing better to do.

Good, but not good enough

I dont normally bother writing reviews but since this was a classic of my childhood I thought i owed it that much! Anyway the directors cut is no where near as good as the original, it has some annoying puzzles that are just a pain to work out and not interesting . In my opinion the worst bit about this version of the game is the fact you cant die. Now i know that may sound silly, but I always remember when I first played it and I died I was so shocked because all the other adventure games I played you could never die so this added a ton of realism to the game that you are chasing a dangerous man. Where as when you play it and you realize you cant die then you dont feel scared and you have all the time in the world to react which in my opinion is boring. But luckily you can download the original version with this! So after playing the directors cut for a bit I am going to uninstall it and just play the original, how it was meant to be, chasing dangerous man and not knowing what to do until to late in some cases...

I've loved it since I first played it.

It's a great classic point-and-click adventure game. Admittedly, I originally played the PS1 version without the director's cut content, and that content isn't great (it's a lot of stuff that was added to take advantage of the Wii remote and DS stylus, because this version was originally made for those systems), but it's still a lot of fun. Well worth playing.
