Beatiful old school adventure

good: 1. pretty. 2. Ultimate point and click adventure game UI(In my opinion), simple and intuitive, no need for any instructions, just install the game and play it. 3. Voice acting is quite well. bad: 1. Puzzles are a little too easy, 5 hours for me to complete first part(second part will release in Q1 2014), I didn't use hints or skip conversation, which is a bit short. Puzzles are too "local", too, and that is one of the reasons of being too easy. 2. Kind of buggy in the last several scenes. Maybe that's because I didn't apply the updates ? 3. Not enough humor. Kind of humor actually, but not enough.

Wonderfull part 1 ruined by weak part 2

Let me start with the good. Graphics, backgrounds, music/sound, animation is amazing. Like in good old broken sword 2 (and 2,5) Enjoyed first part on Christmas just after 1st part has been released. Took mi less than 10hrs (I don't know if it's fast or slow) and I was slightly disappointed when I was left with George and Nico atop the burning house. Took me a while to start part two due to lack of time for such commitment but this summer I finally started it and at the beginning everything was as I remembered, but soon the "riddles" became so abstract that I had to resolve to walk-throughs and hints and on occasion event this did not help. So here I am, 5 months later barely done 3/4 of the story an I REALLY hope that I've just passed the lowest point in the story: jam covered roach with paper clip on his back having to go and short a broken circuit. Trevor (the roach) seems to be essential for our protagonists survival and escape. Ah, and the talking drain pipe, when you have to use radio (walkie-talkie) on drain pipe to talk with Nico... Common sense went sleep early that day... Overall I don't regret buying it and I'd welcome BS6 (I played all official and unofficial parts) but really such games should be shown to some normal ppl before release to assess whether the riddles make sense and lack of logic does not ruin the experience. Ok... Vented a little, back to the game...

Broken Sword as a whole

The franchise as a whole is really interesting filled with loads of puzzles to solve great adventures with both George Stobbart and Nico Collard those 2 as a game couple work perfectly would not have worked if they added any one else as main characters both Nico and George are equally interesting and both just as funny i have every game of the series which consists of 1.Broken Sword 1 (Directors Cut) 2.Broken Sword 2 (Directors Cut) 3.Broken Sword 2.5 Return of the Templars 4.Broken Sword 3 5.Broken Sword 4 and now broken sword 5 Directors cut is better than the original release as it offers extra gameplay if you enjoy games with lots of puzzles may I also recommend you try the da vincci code the puzzles on there are interesting such as fibonache sequence and symbolic messages and its based around murder mystery its a great game not to be missed also try still life a detective story solving crimes loads of puzzles to enjoy and finally post mortem which is set as a detective and is connected with the still life series there are loads of puzzle games to discover so get out there and explore the wonder of puzzle games these few puzzle games i mentioned are my top list because of all the interesting puzzles they hold all the best take care...

Soft reboot of the series

This game tries to be Broken Sword 1 so hard...and it fails. For fans it is almost hurtful because connection between characters have been reseted to zero. Here we have George Stobbart and Nico Collard, one of the most famous- will they won't they couple in the world. George moved to Paris, he was in Paris for months...he never contacted Nicole...why? I do not know, and neither will you, just go with it. At the beginning of the game they meet on the crime scene (Get it? Like in part one, to quote George Lucas " it is like poetry, it rhymes!". But let's forget about the old gezeers and move to next generation! We should not judge the game based on previous entries, let's treat it like single entity...okay...it is boring. Seriously, in good old days world of adventure games was basically split between "We are serious players and we like grim serious tone"- those backed Gabriel Knight and "We like wisecracking and likeable protagonists and a bit of silly in our plot" those backed Broken Sword (for the record, I stick with them). But here we have a game that despite being rather short is just tedious and boring. Moving to next location feels like a chore, magic is gone, good voice acting cannot hide the fact that lines are simply wooden and feel flat. I Sad excuses for "riddles" are just out of place and stupid. Remember old adventure game joke: " Use the plank on the tree so it will talk to you and give you a pinecone so you can use it as ammo in your gun?" yeah, that kind of stupid, but at the same time just boring. This must be my biggest gripe with the game, graphics are amazing, music is good, voice acting is good, but I barely managed to finish first two episodes before calling it quits...so bored! I think that somehow, maybe, episodic nature is to blamed for this, I mean each episode has to have a decent lenght but at the same time limited number of locations and not to reveal too much of plot. So the game feels like...butter, spread over too much bread.

Decent game

I preferred this game to the third and fourth in the series, because I prefer the 2d graphics to the 3d ones, but I must say, as a Christian, I find the story and gnostic theology really messed up--- since when was Lucifer thought to be on par with Jehovah (or God) in terms of power? And a mere man can somehow tap into a power allowing him to destroy God via Lucifer in all this Gnosticism? I'm not all clued up on Gnosticism or Gnostic Christianity (and I wasn't sure whether Marques was correctly a gnostic or a gnostic Christian), it really is messed up, Lucifer isn't God on par with Jehovah or Jesus (and Jesus is never mentioned in all this confusion). But I will say I still rather enjoyed the game, I certainly think better than the third and fourth ones-- the visuals were splendid.
