Very good plateformer for everyone

Review based on the PS version (don't think there's any difference) Game difficulty is quite flexible : so not too easy not too hard for a first playthrough Story : Is o, nothing really bad nor very good. Mechanics : excellent - one of the very good point of the game, even during the first play through the protagonist could be played like you want, Exploration : good - another good point (there is somewhat an incentive to fully each area and you should) Game replay : After finishing the game : you have the option to play some others characters unlocked during the 1st playthrough. It changes totally how to play the game. & extend the lifetime of the game. The game is better and more accessible than i expected . Hope this little review helps.

Beware of shady practices

This game was kickstarted under the promise of delivering to Windows/Mac/Linux. Four years later, and at the last minute, the studio mysteriously dropped Mac/Linux support with almost no explanation other than some hand-waving "middleware" excuse. Worse yet, they did not offer refunds to those that backed with the following explanation: "[...] refunds for Kickstarter projects come out of the pool of funds initially raised by backers. As per the KS terms of use, if an element of a project cannot be completed and there are funds remaining, a refund should be offered. In this instance, the initial funding for the project has been expended on development. Our current progress towards launch is due to additional funding from the publisher, 505 Games." Instead of mustering some courage to offer refunds to those that explicitly backed the game only for the Mac or Linux ports they brought a technicality that they 'spent all the backer money already'. This behavior of promising platform support only to remove this promise a few months before release is nothing short of shameful. 100 hours of pure fun

Yup, you're looking at that for completionists. Graphics: 90/100 [The blend of 2D+3D graphics is excellent for a metroidvania styled game. The characters facial expressions and body animations during cutscenes are stiff and could use a lot of improvement]. Gameplay: 100/100 [Very addictive and fun]. Story: 40/100 [The game lacks a proper narrative and has little character development. These four points represent the merit of the setting as a whole as well as the world's overall creativity, both of which were great.] Art: 95/100 [Bloodstained features stunning scenarios, several character customization options and excellent weapon and item designs. The lack of armor variety is disappointing, though.] Level design: 85/100 [Exploring the map feels great. However, levels could have been bigger and more varied]. Absence of technical issues: 90/100 [Bloodstained has a small memory leak if you play it for several hours straight and some barely noticeable performance issues when using some shard powers. No game-breaking glitches were encountered]. Soundtrack: 80/100 [Bloodstained has a great soundtrack, but a few repetitive and out of place tunes keep it from deserving musical excellency.] Overall score: 580/7 = (82/100). Definitely worth a full price purchase.

Great metroidvania, great soundtrack

I really love the game, can't recommend it enough! Only little problem : The abilities that open new ways should have their own menu, or at least should be highlighted as it is a bit tedious to look for them in the list each time you need them. OK, there is the shortcut menu, but it needs to be updated everytime you change your main weapon. But this is a minor concern in the overall greatness of the game. Buy it, you won't regret it!

Castlevania nostalgia, technical issues

From the character design, to the level design, to the story, Castlevania fans will notice many familiar features. Drawing inspiration from several of the second-generation Castlevania games, Bloodstained weaves them together and in some cases, outdoes them. Some of the not-so-great aspects of those games also carries over, as well; if you want to fully power-up a shard (think soul from Sorrow), be prepared to kill the same non-threatening demon dozens or even hundreds of times. As happy as I am to see this ported to PC and available on GOG, I'm somewhat disappointed with the implementation. If your machine is a few years old, you'll need to lower the graphics settings to get it to run smoothly, which would be fine, except that doing so also causes the menus and maps to expand beyond the borders of the screen, making them difficult to use. Also, by about 75% into my first playthrough, I had already experienced 2 occasions where the game just died for no apparent reason. Hopefully these issues will be resolved in an upcoming technical patch, but until then, save often. Overall, it's a fun game with some very cool moments, and is worth playing.
