Blade Runner

If you're at all a fan of the movies or the cyberpunk/detective aesthetic then this may very well end up being one of your favourite games ever. It features a truly engaging, mature, and interesting story that intertwines with that of the original Blade Runner movie's. The gameplay and randomized nature of who is and who isn't a replicant is beyond its time and it's certainly a masterclass in point-and-click adventure games. You have to use your brain and your choices are rewarding. Still remember having the 4-CD version somewhere around which I never managed to get to work with my Linux machines anymore. Remember very well how, back then, I was extremely torn, being both enthusiastic to see my all-time favorite movie reworked as a computer game - and sceptical whether or not this would be able to work out at all. Back then, it did, and it still does work out in some ways. Extremely moody, in many ways close to some original Blade Runner concepts yet not a simple rip-off, and, most important, thanks to the different paths and choice players were able to make, it found a rather good way of handling one of the core issues of the movie: Are you about to fight replicants or rather sympathize with them, maybe even because you're one of them as well...? I'll submerge in this for a few days now, really looking forward to it.

I had the chance to played it when it was released. Amazing game et even better after i watched the movie few years later aha.

The title and cover art intrigued me enough to do a little research on Youtube. Glad I did , this game is truly ahead of its time. Holy s**t! appreciate this being remade for today. Shocking to see animations and graphics like this for a 1997 game. (of course our video cards give this a sharper image compared to 1997) But man this game is suuuuper immersive.... Playing it makes you truly feel like your in some future dystopia. Little action but an engaging story , dialogue, and immersive environment make this a great game. Would love to see some kind of 3d blade runner action/adventure in the near future but this will suffice.

Visually the game is always working in layers, there's always something going on in layers. The backgrounds use lighting effects/ atmospheric effects like smoke. There is visual movement in every scene that allows the eye to move around, giving everything more depth. There are effects in every scene that make use of the foreground and background. There are in game cutscenes that seamlessly transition into gameplay. The voxel art leaves out details but from a distance the eye is still fairly convinced by the visuals of the game. Your eye sort of fills in the detail and forgives the fuzziness of the models. You sort of filter out and ignore the lack of detail, because all together it just really seems to work visually and you realize that for 1997 this game looks pretty damn amazing...the cutscenes and 2D artwork of the characters are enough to help your brain fill in some details, such as the faces. Some of the details while playing seem unimportant and are easy to ignore the lack of, and if you don't stare, somehow your brain can become convinced that things look a lot more realistic than they actually do. I think part of its charm is being able to use your own imagination to go along with it. Character models don't clash with the pre-rendered backgrounds. The backgrounds are realistic pre-rendered graphics, they are well structured, modeled, and I think that one thing the voxel character models managed, was to make a convincingly structured human form that meshed well with the highly structured backgrounds. To add to this, the visual effects also appear to interact with the character models, ex lighting, fog, etc... It captures the feel of the movie yet creates a unique emotive gaming experience of its own. It follows a similar story to the film but it is also multipath. There's no real right way to play. On top of the ingenious visual style, great audio and voice acting. The voice acting helps make up for the lack of emotion conveyed visually.
