Play classic version, remaster is buggy
Although playable, the remaster crashed on me once and I lost progress; never had a problem with the classic. A bigger problem in the remaster was audio bugs -sometimes audio would be missing. Most or all dialogs were okay, but sometimes cutscenes and others failed. The simplest way to find out is to launch the game: some of the intro logos come with audio (most notably Nvidia's) and the very first cutscene in the game has audio too. Another bug: when entering the very first building you see a statue. For me, the statue was rendered incorrectly, recognizable as a statue but the features weren't visible. The classic version had no problems like this (although it had a few minor rendering bugs) and never crashed. The classic version does SUPPORT THE GAMEPAD, but you have to enable it first. One limitation of the classic version -you probably should keep the default resolution settings, I never could make it work with others. FIRST TIME PLAYERS should go with the classic version, otherwise you might not realize you are having these problems. I played with Intel Graphics -you might fare better with an Nvidia card. THE GAME ITSELF is awesome, a classic; a first person shooter heavy on ambience due to its story, set in an Art Deco city at the bottom of the sea, with the city and its population falling to pieces. You don't have to have read Atlas Shrugged to enjoy it, but if you have it makes it more interesting. (If you don't know what's Atlas Shrugged don't worry and play it anyway). The voice acting is really awesome at times. The game's replay value is somewhat limited unless you change the difficulty, since many events are scripted and thus predictable; but enjoyable anyway to find all the things you missed on the first run. RECOMMENDED; not perfect but comes real close.
