Owned 1&2 a while back on a console.

I'm leaving the same review for BioShock 1 & 2. I did not buy the remastered versions because I feel that BioShock 1 & 2 are EXCELLENT experiences to enjoy, and no other game quite nailed the feel that these two masterpieces give the player. That being said, For me anyways- they have very low replayability. They are strongly story driven with very fun gameplay mixed in that does not disappoint. After Playing BioShock 1&2 I did not feel like playing them again because I enjoyed the experience and the story very much and felt like I experienced everything the games had to offer. The games feel very long if you choose to complete everything that's given as a quest or a mission or a goal and I strongly recommend 100% completing the game because it makes it feel more immersive. It's not really the type of game that you feel you need to play more than once because once you know it, You know it. It stays with you and leaves you craving more but also leaves you satisfied. BioShock 1&2 are masterpieces that everyone EVERYONE should play ONCE. If you never played the original versions, get the remastered (I assume it simply looks better?) and ENJOY. This is great. (if it's simply a graphical touch up and nothing more) I don't recommend playing any sequels to the bioshock series after bioshock 1 and 2 because in my opinion they lose their touch and don't feel right. BioShock 1 and 2 are to me, like Mass Effect 1 is to the mass effect series. The sequels simply do not count. The originals are the ONLY TRUE ONES. Thanks to GOG for putting these great games here!

A Sequel That Improves Upon the Original

I didn't like the original Bioshock, but many of its faults are addressed in this game. You can now dual wield plasmids and weapons, money and ammo are distributed more evenly throughout the game, you don't feel like you're tripping on an alarm every 2 seconds and the hacking is much more streamlined (the pipe game is gone). However I do have to warn you not to play the remaster as it is prone to frequent crashes. How frequent? Well after my second crash in the final level I felt compelled to write this review before completing the game.

Exploitation game

I enjoyed B1 and Infinite, this one is more of a B1 fetish fest. I could not play it more than a few minutes. It screamed to my face "let us put together everything memorable from B1, a lot of it, and mix it together". No mystery, no immersion, it is as infantile as if some kids asked their entertainer to give them big daddies, little sisters and make a game out of it. A Bioshock themed shooter. You are overwhelmed with everything at once from the start, characters, splicers, logs in a big mess you can't even follow. The logs come from very different characters with cliche agendas, all crammed together in that random place you start in. I am not a purist, I wanted to like it, but this is not for me.

The problem child!

Bioshock 2 is like the company moron sitting down at a meeting and spouting out dumb ideas then the boss somehow agrees to all of them. "We need a more annoying but less compelling villain." Bossman- "Brilliant!" "We need a story that is more dull and more convoluted." Bossman- "Brilliant!" "We need to have more than just Big Daddies. Once you save/sacrifice all the Little Sister in a level a BIG SISTER shows up and then you have a big mega-battle with shrill screaming." Bossman- "Brilliant!" "We need to have plasmids and weapons equipped at the same time to spice up the already broken combat." Bossman- "Brilliant!" "Plasmids are too boring, we need to have players hold down a button to power them up and then unleash them but rarely present scenarios where that would actually be useful." Bossman- "Brilliant!" "Make the hacking mini-game into a glorified QTE." Bossman- "Brilliant!" This game is easily the weakest of the Bioshock series and I would only recommend it to people who insist on going through the Bioshock whole series.
