ABOUT THE GAME

Between Horizons is set aboard the Zephyr, humanity's first generation ship en route to another star. You assume the role of Stella, who was born on the ship 24 years ago and recently inherited her father's post as Chief of Security. Dive into the conspiracy behind the incident that threatens to disrupt the Zephyr's social order and foil its mission.

 

Between Horizons is a modern 2.5D pixel art adventure that brings a branching narrative into a semi-open world. The team at DigiTales has applied numerous lessons from their first game Lacuna and proven solutions to detective game design problems to maximize player agency in the investigation process – all the while maintaining the tight pacing of a meaningful story that will ask you to reevaluate your moral compass and make increasingly tough decisions as the situation aboard the ship spirals out of control.

 

 


FEATURES

  • An Unusual Adventure: Between Horizons merges investigation gameplay with a branching sci-fi story in an ever-expanding Metroidvania-style environment.
  • Think For Yourself: The flexible evidence system lets you assign clues to cases, confront ship denizens about them, and solve any case with at any point in time. Everything you find on the ship may or may not be connected to the mystery at hand.
  • Failure is Very Much an Option: There are no second chances — submitting a wrong solution means the story will go with all the consequences. A new and improved auto-save system will make sure there is no going back, as the story branches and ends based on your decisions.

Between Horizons is a pretty traditional representative of the adventure game genre, with some solid modern touches. Stella’s story is affecting, and The Zephyr works well as the setting for a science-fiction mystery that features fundamental ethical dilemmas and big emotional moments.

Interesting and easy to play

I did really enjoy playing this game. Sometimes moving the storyline could get a little frustrating, but overall it was a nice side scrolling experience. The graphics are really nice to watch and the story is also a fun one to watch unfold. My only frustration (which probably isn't fair because it warns you at the beginning) is that you don't save throughout the game. It automatically does it for you. But your choices matter in the endings, and I believe, with some character interactions. So no going back if you accidentally click a dialogue option you didn't want. The game was long enough that playing it through over and over to see different endings just wasn't in the books for me - so it made me feel really stuck and grumbly at times. Other than that - this was a great game to play!

Great Game BUGGY AF`

Game crashes/freezes often on multiple systems. not sure what's up with it. GREAT story line and action and fun pixel graphics with super smooth gameplay when it works.

Failure

What a monstrously boring game this is. It's hard for me to judge the story itself (I wasn't able to finish it - out of sheer boredom), but the UI/UX, the hijacking are just nightmarish. It's one big mess, where you have dozens of objects on the screen, many places and they all look the same. The whole thing is lumped into one bag and you have no idea what pertains to the present case and what is fit for the trash. Even sorting does not exist, and switching the type of items is not remembered. Complete CHAOS. How can something like this be used in an adventure, where the main emphasis should be on the story, not mechanics? And something like this was made by the creators of Lacuna. I can't hide the fact that I tried, because I have the feeling that the scriptwriters could have done a good job, but I just couldn't manage it. This game throws me off with its inaccessibility. No, thank you.

Great game, buggy, steam more stable??

The game itself is great, but I encountered a game breaking bug partway through where I could no present 'evidence' to anyone hence could not progress. This happened multiple times, despite uninstalling and reinstalling the game, deleting all the save files and starting a new game, etc etc. I'm sure this will get fixed eventually but for now the combination of the relatively dead forum here for support / feedback + I don't see any complaints for similar problems on the steam version means I have to recommend people don't get this version and get the steam version instead.
