Betrayal at Krondor Pack

Without question Betrayal at Krondor is the most immersive rpg experience I have ever encountered for its time. As with all rpgs, you'll be drawn by the desire to experience new characters and watch them grow but what will really hook you in and keep you coming back for more is the depth of the world they have recreated and the richness of the story that unfolds. It plays like a great game but you'll remember it as an epic novel full of suspense and intrigue. More than 15 years later I still can't wait to jump back in again. A real tour de force critically acclaimed as 1993's game of the year by Computer Gaming World.

Back in the 90's I was not a huge fan of CRPG's. As a fantasy lover I wanted to like them, but most of them I found dauntingly complex or difficult to play, and would give up after a few hours. Betrayal at Krondor was one of the few exceptions, and while I haven't played it in years, I suspect it's still a great place to start.

This game is a true standout for a number of reasons. For fans of the books, it will be a rewarding sidestory, but it is so well-written that a newcomer to Feist's world will have no problem getting engaged with it. Combat mechanics are interesting, especially the puzzle-oriented traps. Leveling up skills uses a fun system, although admittedly it can be easily abused. The moredhel chests provide riddle challenges with fun rewards. The world is huge in scale and scope, with an immense amount of ground to cover and sidequests and characters. Your missions are relatively clear and straightforward, but the game allows you to take your time completing the chapters and lets you move with a lot of freedom in the overworld. Quibbles: Overworld graphics are somewhat lacking, but the combats are visually interesting, especially spell animations. Some of the encounters are rather difficult if you don't know what you're getting into, so save before a fight. And the sewers, mine tunnels, and kind of underground lair is ridiculously long, convoluted, and full of branching tunnels. Not always realistic, but good for a dungeon crawl :) It bears reiteration: the world Feist has sculpted is very wonderfully delivered with a fantastic plot and well developed characters, and comes with excellent challenges, interesting puzzles, and an immersive experience. This title is exactly what Good Old Games is all about - a classic experience that many people have never even seen, let alone heard of. Don't miss it!

Once upon a time in my life there was a beautiful summer, unlimited time to use and there was million interesting things to do outside...except I spent almost the whole summer inside playing this. Do not get me wrong, I really, REALLY like summer and outside sports, but I HAD to finish this after I started it. There is something unique in this game, that everyone has to experience themselves. One of the great experiences in my life, there's no doubt about that. Try yourself, but do it in winter or some other season that you don't like, because you'll probably end up just like me wondering what is so good in this game that it keeps you playing... and then you play some more.

By far one of the best RPG's out there. If you loved the books you'll love the game.
