In addition, the rebalanced Batsugun Special is also included, and features a visual overhaul with new colors and altered enemy behavior. A smaller hitbox and a shield protecting the ship from one hit, makes it easier which is needed as the barrage of enemy projectiles ups the ante for the true bullet hell factor. Batsugun Special introduces multiple loops, increasing difficulty with each completion. Can you master all four loops?

"As we prepare to launch with the Skull Hornets, our mission stands clear: overthrow the oppressive regime of King Renoselva A. Gladebaran VII. The path ahead is fraught with adrenaline-pumping battles and perilous missions. Our comrades and I are eager, but the question lingers: can we restore liberty to our people and emerge victorious?"

The birth of danmaku

Fantastic port of probably the earliest example of the danmaku, or bullet hell, genre of shmup - smaller hitboxes, elaborate bullet patterns etc. The final shooter from Toaplan which has a mixture of Psikyo/Cave feel to it. The port itself is really well done and plays fantastically. You get two versions of the game here: the original and the "Special" version which rebalances the game somewhat and makes things slightly easier for novice players. This is the first of the Bitwave ports I've purchased as I'm not such a fan of the more old-school style of shmup these days, but if this is anything to go by I'll certainly be keeping an eye on their future releases. If they could get their hands on any Cave titles and bring them to GOG I would be very happy indeed.

Bitweave leaves me speechless

I don't even know where to start! Not only do you get a perfect Arcade emulation (down to the option allowing you to insert coins manually) of a REALLY AMAZING game with an equally amazing soundtrack, it also includes different variants of the game, and is packed with TONS of quality of life improvements, DIP switch settings, bezels, configurable sound output, scaling options and so so so much more. AND IT'S JUST $8! Don't get me wrong, this is an outstanding package on its own, but I have seen so many Arcade ports where you get so much less for thrice the price. If you even remotely like Arcade SHMUPS, do yourself a favor and buy this. Even if you're not very good with Bullet Hell, there are Rewinds, Assist modes and more to make it VERY enjoyable. See, I didn't know where to start and now I don't know how to end it. Buy the game. Have fun!

Birth of a genre

Most people would agree that this game started the basis of the genre known as Bullet Hell, kinda like Steppenwolf is one of the bands that are credited with being proto-heavy metal and helped bands like Black Sabbath create a new genre. This is an amazing game and probably my favorite game of all Toaplan library, the only sad thing about this is that it was their last game and the only consolation we have is that at least they left the industry with a bang. Bitwave Games had done an amazing work with this release, no audio bugs, no visual issues and plus including two versions of the game in which "Special" is included something I personally didn't expect to see, so they deserved your purchase if you're into STGs. Highly recommended!

A perfect prelude to the madness..

You can tell that the Bullet Hell has arrived with this game, yet unlike what is to come, this game is still somewhat restrained from the true Hell status, which I enjoy! Well choreographed with just enought crazy. If you like shooters, get this now, great port, short but sweet, straight up chaos by the time you hit level 4 - loads of fun! It aint Ikaruga but it is still legendary in it's own right!

It deserved a great port...

... and ... well... Bitwave nailed it. Great game overall. Its a true piece of history, and a yummy piece of game design. Very good introduction to shmup's for beginners, and very enjoyable experience for veterans. The "feeling" is awesome, when you find (or find back if you spent coins on arcade, some few years ago ;) ) the rythm of the game. Everything seems spot on so far, after 6-7 hours of game. Kudos to Bitwave for this port, kudos to GOG to bring this on.
