Would be a great game if bugs were fixed

Banner Saga 2 is a direct continuation of Banner Saga with minimal changes. The tactical battles are still the bread and butter of this game, and now greater than ever with more characters, abilities and high level talents. The caravan management is still rather shallow in comparisson and the plot remains nebulous. The survival mode is a nice addition as it allows you to gather your dream team among all playable characters and just fight, fight, fight without being burdend by the overbearing narrative. I would rate this game 4 stars if not for some really annoying bugs. For example: Rook is adressed as a female in multiple dialog lines (german version), a training mission might yield you a duplicated item that you can't unequip anymore and a certain class of characters (horseborn) accidentally lose their existing abilities when learing additional ones (can only be solved by manual savegame-editing). For a game that already received multiple patches over the course of 3 years this is really disappointing

Just bloody brilliant

Starting with the gameplay, I have little to say. It makes a few tweeks to the tile-based combat of the first game, but it otherwise plays much the same. If like me, you quite enjoyed the playstyle then whats not to like; if on the other hand the tactical side of it is not entirely to your liking then I would suggest you might still love it for its story. The story of Banner Saga is really enjoyable but its the combination of that story, along with the atmosphere created by the visuals and the audio that really gets under your skin. They do a wonderful job of making that story a personal one, with each choice carrying weight. I started the game playing as the usual hero, making all the "right" choices and always leaping to the defence of whoever needed defending. It didnt take long before the story forced me to realise that in this world, playing the selfless hero comes with a cost: will you help the people of that village which is under attack though it may mean the loss of more precious supplies and more of your caravan? Sacrifices will have to be made if the people following your banner are to be brought safely to their destination. What can I say, I really enjoyed my first playthrough and look forward to my second.

Прекрасное продолжение саги!

В этой игре, как и в предыдущей, просто шикарный арт стиль и рисовка графики, офигенная музыка в скандинавском стиле, интересное продолжение истории и еще больше фактов о мифологии мира, а занимательная пошаговая боевая система (что мне, как фанату Героев 3 очень нравится) все также радует. А еще, непростых моральных выборов стало больше, плюс последствия с первой части серии. Так что импортирование сохранений обязательное, если хотите полностью насладится именно своей историей! Это идеальная игра для прохождения осенними или зимними вечерами! PS: играть только осенью или зимой не обязательно :)

Must play Banner Saga 1 to enter

Banner Saga 2 picks up right after the satisfying but definitely open-ended finale of Banner Saga 1. That goes for every aspect of the production: story, gameplay, production values, everything fits neatly into the holes of the first part of the trilogy. The Banner Saga 2 does an excellent job continuing the story, raising the narrative stakes and catching us up with our favorite characters and introducing great new dramatis personae. It maintains the evocative art style and contains some of my favorite god stones. All these things are good things. But this sequel only does an ok job expanding the gameplay. A whole new category of characters is introduced. There is a new category of skill you can invest your level points into, which gives you percentages to inflict critical damage or completely avoid incoming damage. A bunch of new artifacts are there. The classes can now learn more than one special ability. And that’s it. Everything else about the tactical combat and the VN style travel mechanic is the same. Should you make the commitment to the whole trilogy then? To my mind, that entirely depends on your engagement level with the story. If you want to find out what happens to our plucky collection of horned giants, psychotic vikings and shady Gandalf wannabes, The Banner Saga 2 will happily tell you the Dark Middle Chapter, and do a good, at times even great, job of it. If you are here for gameplay experience that expands upon the first game in interesting and engaging ways, you might have to switch franchises. TLDR: If you remember your time with The Banner Saga 1 with affection, do not miss this one. If you didn’t, don’t bother. If you haven’t played Part 1 and are interested in Part 2, start at the beginning like a normal person.

Improvement

Great artwork. Combat system has been improved. The story being in the middle of the saga is a bit, in the middle, as most such stories will be. The game ended somewhat quickly with battles that were somewhat anti-climatic. Overall pretty good and will be interested to see the 3rd addition to the series.
