disappointing

I really wanted to like this, I really did, but... - It's painfully buggy, - the graphical enhancements somehow manage to make a 16 year old game look worse - the characterization doesn't even attempt to be consistent with BG1 or 2 Now the political stuff is just insulting, there already was a trans character in BG1, and she was handled in a much more sensitive way than the mess in the expansion. Trans character 1: (The Ogre, right at the start of the original Baldur's gate) The ogre with the belt of gender swap. A character who has been forced to a life of crime to try and fix what's wrong with her. It might be subtle, but it's there and sadly rather representative of the plight of most trans people in the world through it's near invisibility. Trans character 2: (The merchant from the expansion) Unavoidable out of context rant about the issue

One Star Reviews are anti-Transgender

Great game, good add-on. The one star reviews for this are ONLY here because there's a male character who identifies as a woman. Transgender has existed throughout history, and yet they claim having one in a medieval style game breaks immersion. Don't worry about the anti-sjw agenda, just enjoy the game. Or murder the character after she comes out to you like an uploader on Youtube. Careful about immersion when you do it though.

Problematic

Bugged. I fired this up eager to play and tried to import a character from my play-through of the original nearly 2 decades ago to give me a head start. It did not work. Searching the forums showed this was a common complaint and it is still not fixed. Also had sound bugs, with character speech and spell effects not working at times. Some people seem offended by political content. Certainly the writing is clumsy compared to the original. Minority rights may well be a worthy cause but this is by no means the way to promote them.

Great game!

Lots of hours here that one can dedicate, and with a few patches on the way hopefully the handful of glitches that exist will be ironed out. My only real caveat is that the multiplayer is, apparently, just an absolute mess right now. But otherwise, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were interesting, the plot was decent and the dialogue all worked. Great work :)

Trip back in time

First I'll admit there are some bugs they need to work out but it's been that way with the EE's so I expected that going in. That being said this gave me something that I've wanted for a long time, a chance to return to the Baldur's Gate series and play some new content. For me, it hit all the right notes and improves on the originals in a lot of ways. 5 stars, two thumbs up, would definitely recommend.
