No Imoen - no party

The exclusion of your Bhaalspawn sister is enough for me not to buy this game. Add to that Beamdog's horrible track record of incompetence (losing the rights to sell their own game for some time!) and scamming (buyers of the physical edition do not receive patches! let that go through your head for a moment!!!), the lackluster quality of the enhanced editions (amount of added content is a joke) and the SJW controversy (which I am luckily not familiar with in detail) and you got one of the biggest failures in video game history, before even STARTING the game. I would've still bought it eventually, but when I read on the forum that Imoen wasn't included (WTF) I permanently gave up on that plan. Shame cause I was looking forward to visiting Boareskyr Bridge with her, the place where Bhaal died... I never even watched a let's play of this game. It's better to pretend it doesn't exist (and it doesn't look like somebody is willing to make an Imoen inclusion mod for it either. I guess the saga of Baldur's Gate finally has come to an end now with this conceptual disasterpiece, which is an eternal shame. Beamdog you suck!

Is this an Icewind Dale Expansion?

I was playing this game, it was ok, nothing particularly memorable, but I could not help but notice this feels a lot more like an expansion to the Icewind Dale expansion rather than Baldur's Gate. The storyline is weak / below average The writing is poor (particularly for the new NPCs, other than Corwin none of whom got my interest) Many of the enemies from Icewind Dale appear in this game I am pretty sure the Final Boss in this game is similar to that of Icewind Dale The comparison to Icewind Dale is not a bad one, its just that with the writing not being as good as BG2 (and many of the new party NPCs being untouchable) it might have been better off as a Icewind Dale game? And yes I agree with other comments, the childish manner in which some people at Beamdog conducted themselves, particularly on their forum is just disrespectful to the fans. I would be interested in more BG content but not if individuals acting on behalf of Beamdog insists on insulting me and other gamers.

I enjoyed it very much

Overall I thought it was great content. Challenging, interesting main story and side quests. I bought it on sale, and definitely got my moneys worth and plan to play through it again with a different class. I was really concerned about buying it based on several negative reviews, but I am glad I picked it up. The down-vote is because it crashed on me twice, although restarting from the last save worked every time. Additionally, the story progress was a bit abrupt at times and I didn't get a chance to finish all the quests I started.

Well made optional add on

Of course Siege of Dragonspear struggles with the fact that mechanically the start of BG2 did neither intend nor need an add on between both games. Thus from a purely mechanical point of view you "only" get some more XP and some more items to import into BG2. However, albeit being sceptical because of the many bad reviews, I found the add on to be well done and resembling what made BG1 and 2 great in many instances. I liked the available followers (well one was annoying but I just ignored him), the locations were very interesting and had lots of variety. There are also intense fights against strong enemies. The quests were ok (not amazing but enjoyable) and I liked the story. In my opinion most of the things fit nicely into the BG trilogy and the Forgotten Realms lore. This add on just offers more of the same, and if you like isometrical CRPGs you will have a good time.

Received a refund

Thankfully received a refund. Dumbed down difficulty New NPCs are not necessary and poorly written Lack of challenge Forced linear gameplay where the options you take have no impact on the game Quite a few bugs resulting in quests that cannot be completed and crashes The "siege" is basically a spam fest where you almost have no control of what is going on as there are so many NPCs on the screen. The game engine was simply not designed for large scale battles.
