Baldur's Gate 3

So fucking gooood

Might be one of the greatest RPGs so far. You'll have a hard time picking which companions to take with you, because all of them are so great in their own way. You'll have a hard time picking your playstyle because you have so many possibilities and they are all rewarding. If you just want the main story you can get through in 30 hours, but if you want to discover as much as you can, you play 300 hours and only finish the game once or twice. And even then you'll still find new things. It sure isn't perfect but it shows how close a studio can get, when it listens to the players feedback instead of corporate greed. And when you enjoyed BG3 you should give Larians other games a try as well. While their graphics might be a bit outdated by now, they're still great in all other aspects

While I can respect what Larian is trying to do for the CRPG genre, this just doesn't quite hit the mark, though it does set the stage for some to come along and do it better. That said, here's my experience: I beat this on Tactician for my first play through. I played with some intention so that it felt like there were some stakes to my choices and within the narrative. Unfortunately, quite a bit holds this game back. Character creation is pretty bare. Companions all have poor personalities and I don't care about any of them. The logic of some narrative elements is flawed (don't get me started on the guardian/Emperor). The game relies very heavily on sexuality and suggestion to keep you engaged which would be fine if it wasn't c***slapping you across the head with it. And combat is a huge slog. Hands down, it is the number one thing that holds this game back. I played a few Tavs as well and no amount of role playing can justify some of the choices that are presented to you. Here's what I liked though... graphics, voice acting, branching narratives were sometimes interesting...

Calling this Baldur's Gate 3 carries a lot of expectations from the previous titles and so far I am not impressed. It should have been called something else.
