surprisingly not fun
I tried 5 starts. I can't get into the game, it's just not fun for me, although I was looking forward to it. I found divinity original sin 2 more entertaining. i don't find any of the skills interesting, i don't find any of the backgrounds interesting, none of the characters appeal to me. Its just not for me iguess

Extremely Overhyped Divinity Game
The amount of social media propaganda surrounding this title is incredible. "Best game ever", or "the truest DnD PC adaptation" or "GOTY" chants ring through the decrepit pits that is the Internet. The game is mechanically very well done, it has at least somewhat interesting story. It is a DOS2 clone - no wonder since it's on the same engine - but that's, surprisingly, not detrimental, since the original material has always been turn-based. So don't listen to the "no BG if no RTWP" crowd - that is not it. The combat itself is actually good. It's professional, polished work. But that is about where the good things end. The story telling itself has horrible pacing - first you are told that everything is super urgent but of course you waddle around the world for ages. It's the similar trope to DOS2, but it was more believable there. Everything littered with useless loot that will clog your inventory, with UI fighting you all the way. Classic Larian, and veterans of DOS1+2 will remember. Dice rolls are everywhere and failure frequently equals instant death, so, you will be save scumming a lot by design. What a wonderful DM Larian is... Lots of liberties taken with the DnD implementation, too. If you want to see truly the truest implementation on PC, go play Solasta. But all of that is forgivable. What isn't, however, is what Larian did to the NPCs and our beloved characters from BG2. It's 2023, so, there are subverted expectations everywhere, everybody's edgy with some super duper dark secret. Because we can't have a classic simple high fantasy. And if you doubted for a second, this game is also extremely woke. Romances are not "LIMITED" by gender or race... so, ever wondered how would Minsc's romance look like in BG2? Well, he's bi... as is everyone else. So BG3 finally did it. The first woke game that is universally acclaimed. This is the endgame, people, and games like BG2 will NEVER return. If you want that experience, you will have to turn to the past.

Half-baked and railroady
The game suffers from the same massive array of puddle-deep content that catches the attention of the mass of casuals nowadays. Some examples to illustrate the pattern are below. There are many more, but the blind refuse to see the pattern no matter how many examples you give. The tieflings leaving the grove: The head druid can tell you to escort the tieflings out. You tell the tiefling leader this, he refuses and attacks you, despite his beef being with the druid. There is no option to point out that you can help them get to somewhere safe. There is no other tiefling who you can talk to who can take charge. Telling the druid that the tiefling attacked you just makes her say to deal with the rest. You can't even kill the rest of the tieflings, because the children are magically invincible. Goblin children you meet later aren't invincible though. Fascinating. The Devil, Raphael. You can meet a Devil in act 1, who says he can remove the disgusting parasite in your brain. If you agree, he refuses because that would end the plot. Because like Cyberpunk, your personal problem is the trigger for the credits, and the designers *refuse* to let you solve it before exploring the rest of the world. The companions' garbage is forced upon you even if you kill them. If Gale dies, you can't sleep to heal, because his magical explosion ends the game no matter how far away form his corpse on the beach you are. If Shadowheart dies, the artifact will forcibly stuff itself into your inventory if you get close to her corpse, or sleep at camp. If you go to the bridge where you get the cutscene of "The Ultimate" talking at you, the game forces you to go to camp to force the artifact on you, and gives you no way to leave. All this, and much more, is all in act 1. Who knows what garbage is forced upon you in the others. A *good* CRPG gives you options, because each character can be *very* different. *Bad* CRPGs force all characters to take the same road, with only tiny detours allowed.

Not worth my time.
I've never been as frustrated with a game before. It's riddled with bugs and becomes unplayable in later parts. Characters can't be interacted with, dialoge goes silent, combat bugs out etc. Every new bugfix makes things worse and/or corrupts saves. I've started over four times, this is the limit of how much time I am able to invest. Contentwise, as far as I came: - It's no Baldur's Gate. In my case, this was a pleasent surprise - I didn't especially like BG and BG2 but am a big fan of Larian. For BG-fans it might be best to see this as a standalone. - I really liked how the combat is handled, especially that it's round-based, like in Divinity. - I'm split about the characters. Starting out, I hated all of them but two actually grew on me. The rest weirded me out, especially Karlach who is written like a ten-year old metagamer. Props to the voice actors though! They've done an incredible job, all of them. - The story as far as I've gotten into it (80hrs) is a mess. It's that case of "making thing confusing and complicated so that the holes don't show". As long as you don't think about it, it's fair fun. Once you get invested and try to understand it, it falls apart quickly. This was a big disapointment for me, as the other Larian Games I've played at least felt like they've been paying much more attention to logic. I also hate that the game lies to you about having choices when in it's progress your desicions are ignored. - This game is no escapism. Before playing BG3, I never was aware that this is a thing. I felt every piece of Media is escapism, regardless the topic or message. Here I got constantly confronted with topics and "people" I have to deal with at work our try my best to ignore on Social Media. I often left the game more stressed out then when I started playing. I don't quite know what to make of the game. Maybe I'm not the traget audience. That's fine, but I wish I'd known 300 hours earlier...
