Worse than modded original
I'm absolutely kicking myself that I never bought the original BG1 on gog. Modding the original lets you do pixel perfect scaling to achieve the closest DPI to what the original looked like without blurring. The widescreen mod from gibberlings3 handles high res better. Heck there's probably fewer bugs with the fan patch. And then you get the new art which looks wildly out of place and not in keeping with the original art style. You can seriously find better on deviant art. Aside from visuals, the enhanced edition heavily modifies the actual gameplay with seemingly no way to play it as it was originally created. There's subclasses that didn't exist and you can't turn off. Classes and races work differently. Edit: I discovered a key for the original edition comes with this. So I'm upgrading to 2 stars. I thought about 3 but then I discovered how far GemRB has come. Seriously, if you want the best BG experience, install the original, fixpack and GemRB and you are set. If the concept of installing 2 mods is too daunting this will work but it's sad a commercial product is worse than modding efforts. Previous final paragraph left for posterity: This version probably deserves 2 or 3 stars on its own merits there is one nice improvement in loading times, but I'm giving it 1 star because they decided to make the original version unavailable. This is a deep shame for the purposes of preservation.
