Classic game still holds water
I loved the old Exile series from back in the 90's. The Avernum remakes are done very well. The story and tactical turn based combat more than make up for the primitive graphics and combat sound.

Old school but classic
The graphical overhaul still leaves the game feeling like it came from the mid 1990's, so it feels extremely retro, but there is a lot of hours of adventuring fun packed into the game andthe interface is not as clunky as many old time RPGs. Most of the game is exploration and combat. There's a decent plot, interesting side quests and hidden items, but make no mistake, your time will mostly be spent killing things.
