Anachronox – игра во многом уникальная. В ней объединены элементы японских ролевых приключений, походовые сражения, интереснейшие персонажи с необычными характерами, грандиозный (и великолепно поданный) сюжет, восхитительная графика и превосходный юмор. Вам предстоит посетить различные галактики, исследовать странные планеты и отправиться в путешествие сквозь пространство и время. В этой игре не бывает простых решений, нет очевидных, предсказуемых последствий и «черно-белых» персонажей. Такая многогранность была вознаграждена высокими оценками прессы – Anachronox трижды попадал в сотню лучших игр для PC по версии журнала PC Gamer. An RPG in the same engine as Quake 2 (with some modifications) is an interesting mechanic, and for the most part works well enough. The game has a well-developed story and a believable world that's easy to become immersed in. When the game works as it should, it's quite an exceptional experience. The mix of serious topics with humor and satire is well-balanced.
Despite using an engine designed for skill-based action combat, this game uses a turn-based system -- a turn-based system that often interrupts the flow of the story and pulls the player out of the immersive experience. It just feels out-of-place. Movement is occasionally a bit awkward, albeit it's tolerable with some practice.
I highly recommend this game for anyone who enjoys unique stories, well-crafted worlds, and RPGs in general. It's just a bit too clunky on the gameplay side to give it the 5th star.
An amazing game that unfortunately didn’t age well. A remarkable protagonist and many memorable characters, and not only your companions, but many of the other NPCs as well. Many MANY humorous moments, epic turn-based battles (especially with the bosses), very interesting quests and deep overall storyline, which is given in good, moderate doses and it’s never difficult to follow. You will have two companions for battle with you at all times and you’ll have to change them according to the specific situations you’ll be in. You’ll get to travel to many locations in order to finish the game. The game is long. Also, the cutscenes are truly unforgettable!
Too bad that, even though everything is explained in the game and there aren’t any plot-holes left, it eventually ends with a promise of a sequel (not a cliffhanger) which we never got (so far).
All in all, if you can overcome the old graphics, you’re in for an unforgettable experience!
I loved this game. It truly has one of the most unique, interesting, original worlds I've ever seen, with a cast of unforgettable characters. Extremely well-written, funny, and interesting. Gameplay itself may be a little dated, and that the game somehow never received a sequel to its shocking cliffhanger ending is one of the great tragedies in video game history, but that shouldn't stop you from enjoying this absolute joy of a game and everything it has to offer. Could not recommend this title highly enough.
If there was one failing this game had it was the lack of Public Relations it had. Very little in the way of advertisements and barely made its way onto a demo disc at the time. This game and Deus Ex still hold as the two best RPGs of their time, and I'd easily put it up against modern RPGs to show them how story telling is done. This game takes its odd blend of sci-fi and cyberpunk, having no issue with throwing you into different times and just letting the characters be themselves.
Seeing this come to GoG, it was an instant buy for me, it should for any fan of the Cyberpunk Genre as well.
Anachronox is a story-driven humor-heavy RPG. Dialogues are well-written. It's worth talking to every single person multiple times. Otherwise, you'll miss a lot ( including optional quests ). However, don't expect any reply options here.
The story itself is nothing special, but the way it is told is really entertaining. And while background events fall into "saving the universe" trope, the main focus of the story is "overcoming long-term personal issues".
Party members provide interesting banter. Anachronox has the most unusual companion, I've ever encountered in games. It also offers one of the best character introduction scenes.
Many events and aspects of setting have more or less scientific explanations, making Anachronox closer to the true sci-fi genre.
There are plenty of planets to explore with different design, layout and atmosphere. Planet residents and their social structures are also variable. Unfortunately, all locations are very linear.
The idea of distributed gravity and plate transitions makes design of the planet Anachronox really interesting. And there are many small details that contributes to the immersion.
The quality of soundtrack varies. Some themes are nice to listen and suit the place well. The others are boring headache-generators.
All cut-scenes in Anachronox are rendered real-time on the engine. Therefore, they are looking great even on modern systems.
Combat seems to be turn-based at the first glance, but in fact it is RTWP with long cool-downs. Visual effects during combat are colourful.
Level ups are automatic, you have no choices here.
There are way too many mini-games in Anachronox. They are mandatory to use companions' special abilities.
The game contains a lot of small bugs. Nothing critical, but they are really annoying. User interface is non-intuitive and is not explained enough in manual.
I would recommend to play Anachronox everyone who are into space opera settings or searching something unique and unusual in games.
