Anachronox – игра во многом уникальная. В ней объединены элементы японских ролевых приключений, походовые сражения, интереснейшие персонажи с необычными характерами, грандиозный (и великолепно поданный) сюжет, восхитительная графика и превосходный юмор. Вам предстоит посетить различные галактики, исследовать странные планеты и отправиться в путешествие сквозь пространство и время. В этой игре не бывает простых решений, нет очевидных, предсказуемых последствий и «черно-белых» персонажей. Такая многогранность была вознаграждена высокими оценками прессы – Anachronox трижды попадал в сотню лучших игр для PC по версии журнала PC Gamer. Вас ждут многие часы интересных и захватывающих приключений!
Several clever jokes and charming protagonists hold my interest despite the bland gameplay. You run from A to B, fight some funny foes, run to C, fight the next, and discover poorly aged graphics. When I was tired from long ways to go and longish battle animations the next smart innuendoes came along and keep sticking me. Anachronox has a little more ups than downs. For all the anger there is allure.
Achtung: The finals fights are assaults on your life time (bugs included).
This more an opinion on the game than a Review.
First of all I have to say the game ran perfectly fine on my Windows 10 Laptop. I played in windowed mode because I found it better to look at than playing fullscreen with low resolution.
Second I have to admit I didn't come even close to finish the game. The story seems to be good but I just couldn't push trough the slow and boring combat.
The graphics are as you would expect from an old game. Nothing too bad and very playable if you don't mind old school 3D game looks.
As far as the worlds go I think they are very well put together to set a certain mood for the game and area you are in. Nevertheless the level/mission forces you to back track way too much.
The big problem of this game is the gameplay. The combat is just straight up boring. It is kind of turn based in the sense that everybody has a meter which fills overtime and when it is full said character can perform an action (move, attack, special, item). There is also a movement system which is a good idea, but as far as I experienced it is just too limited to be really useful (besides the one boss fight I finished). Although there is a varaity in enemy types (melee, ranged, hybrids) there is not really any stratagy in beating them so it comes down to hiting the enemys with your standard attack until your special meter is filled (and you can execute a special attack) or they are dead. What really kills it though are the way too long animations. So additionally to beeing dull it also takes very long to beat even weak enemies.
The story seemed to be good and reasonable well presented. You start as a loser on the quest to pay your debts as a starting point to something bigger.
Since I didn't get that far maybe later on the story will be amazing enough to drag through the combat, for me it sure wasn't in the 5-7 starting hours of the game.
Overall I can see that the game has a certain charm but for me the story in the first hours couldn't compensate for the dull combat.
It looks like a Final Fantasy game from the 90's. It plays like a Final Fantasy game from the 90's. It even has an epic story like a 90's Final Fantasy game. But it's not even close to a Final Fantasy game.
I played this game years ago, and have since lost my copy. I now have a place to get it. Thanks GoG.
Anyway, back to the game.
For a start, Anachronox has the most intelligent and adult humour I've seen in a long time. And in what other game can you have an entire planet as a party member? Or a comic book superhero who actually exists?
Anachronox is a superb game. It's buggy, can be frustrating as hell, and often vertigo inducing (Especially the planet Anachronox itself, the impossible gravity is a shock and a half the first time you play) but you will come back to it time and time again.
