Best Alone In The Dark game!

The New Nightmare is decidedly the best game in the Alone In The Dark franchise and one of the greatest horror games ever made. Even after 25 years (soon to be celebrated) it still has a generations of players who love it. I sincerely think that a remaster or a true-to-the-original remake would be the next step in ensuring that the legacy of the AITD ftranchise will go on. The sooner, the better...

A great action-spooker with unique ideas

Maybe because I played it a long time ago, I overlooked what others might find a little clunky? But wow, AiTD plays like classic Resident Evil in a lot of ways, and it's reasonably modern if the old classic Alone in the Darks are a bit too throwback for you. The two characters have not only different storylines, but different gameplay styles. Edward Carnby is your shooty boi. A majority of his playthrough involves guns with an extra barrel (starts with a double-barrel revolver, gets a triple-barrel shotgun later!). He gets some puzzles and a few boss fights too though! Aline Cedrac is a scholar, not an action hero. She starts with just a flashlight, and her gameplay is a lot more enemy-avoidance and clever puzzle solving. Later on she gets some pretty cool experimental weapons though. Sure, you get some zombies, but the unique point of this AiTD is that the monsters are "shadow creatures." Some behave just like any other game baddies who need extra lead in their diet, and others are banished or at least spooked by light. Speaking of light, for a game of its age, light vs darkness is themed rather heavily, and the flashlight dynamics are really impressive. (Fortunately, unlike Alan Wake, you're not reloading that light every 30 seconds, if I remember correctly...) Aline's playthrough especially, gives you that feeling when you wake up at 2AM to pee after watching scary movies all night, and you feel yourself running for the light switch because something could be right behind you! I remember some lengthy journal entries, and unfortunately a few befuddling book-somewhere-provides-the-secret-code puzzles, ack...but no slider puzzles I don't think! If you're a Resident Evil fan you'll feel right at home. You even get your cardiograph health indicator and special talisman charm thingies that let you save your game, fortunately without having to find a typewriter first! Wears a bit thin by the end, but definitely worth playing for unique ideas.

Im SORRY. I Need help =( I instal this game on Windows 7 and work perfect but now I instal on Windows 10 and missing textures Cranby is blue and world is white. Please where is fault?

What Even Was This Mess?

It started so strong, with references to the original game, including a near-perfect replicated shot from inside a top-floor window overlooking the grounds. This scene alone got me excited. I immediately noticed how well the characters controlled, and I had little trouble utilizing a program such as JoytoKey to map a controller (though the keyboard and mouse option are likely completely fine if that's your preference). Beyond that, the story and overall experience are a mess. It's nearly impossible to feel properly alone in the dark when there's a new character standing around every corner attempting to add some obscure bits of information to the plot. Need more than the cryptic clues that NPC 1, 2 or 3 gave you? Just turn around and crack open one of seemingly dozens of books strewn about the game world. Each is guaranteed to dump an excess of lore into your lap after you've read through the ten, fifteen, or even fifty-odd(!) pages found in each book. This would almost be enough to make you think this would lead to an excellently crafted story, but sad to say, the ending is about as tangible as the nonexistent clues to beating a number of the bosses.

good game

good game. I seen it says it needs windows xp to win 7 but it also works on Windows 98 and Windows 10 :)
