Doesn't Work Right
The graphics are not working on modern hardware. It looks like textureless boxes from Blender. Unplayable.

The worst version of this game.
Controller support is present, but the game will not recognize d-pad or triggers. Little graphics option are present and the dafult brightness of the game is far too high, this is supposed to be a horror game. I would address that with Reshade, but it has a well known issue working, supposedly if you do not use Galaxy it works, but without Galaxy it has an error that keeps it from launching at all that is far more trouble than such a mediocre and unremarkable game and series is worth to fix. In short, it's crap. Do not buy this.

What might have been....
While the 1992 original is a pioneer of survival horror games, this 2001 reboot is the first modern game in the series. The story, characters, setting and atmosphere are all on point and very engaging. The game has serious flaws though like re-spawning enemies, some very confusing & cryptic puzzles, and the boss fights were at times confusing and frustrating to handle as well due to their puzzle-like sequence. Even so, I enjoyed New Nightmare for what it is, and it was suppose to be the beginning of another trilogy, but those plans got scrapped, which is unfortunate. I feel the series would've been in far better shape had they just proceeded with the New Nightmare reboot trilogy. The 2008 game and 2015 Illumination were so bad, they virtually killed the series. So, it's an amazing miracle that Alone in the Dark 2024 got made which is now possibly the best game in the series thanks to modern gameplay & graphics, and being a faithful & respectful homage to the 1992 original.

Game does not Work
As much as I would have loved to play an old classic. I couldn't for the life of me get it to run. I tried all suggested support notes. Tried running the game in all types of compatibility mode and installed all sorts of codecs and patches but to no avail it did not function. If you can try and find an original copy of this somewhere for Psone I highly recommend it because unfortunately it will not run on everyone's computer. Good luck future player !
