Enjoyable platform game with small issues
(please, consider my score rather as 4,5 stars) Akimbo is definitely not one of the games that would catch your attention immediately. But after playing a bit, the game shows a lot of good things characteristic for well made platform game. Starting from fluent control, through nice variety in enemies and level design, and finishing with a pleasant soundtrack - my personal favourites are soothing music from Second World and First Boss fight music. I also like some small details, such as the fact that you can (aside from kicking/punching enemies) jump on them, but this may have a different outcome depending on the enemy. For example, jumping on flies kills them, jumping on walking oysters just stuns them (you need to hit them with a punch/kick after that), but you shouldn't jump on hedgehogs, trust me :) There are some minor issues - for example, I had an impression, that sometime after taking the talisman giving a bonus move (further jump or slower descending) it's harder to perform it, it's not that it lost the power because you still can do it, but it seems to work randomly. While I like the fact that you usually need to find a way to defeat each boss, sometimes after learning the "weak point" fight can be way too quick (like with the fourth boss). There are 21 levels in total (20 levels split on 4 worlds + 1 level with the final boss), playing for the first time, it will probably take some time to complete it. Sadly, it's the game for "one playthrough", because after finishing it there is not much reason to get back to it (no level editor or additional game modes), but in my opinion, it's a very good experience and Akimbo is worth your time.
