A solid game, but very-very hard
A solid game, with great graphics even for todays standard (look for a patch on ModDB for widescreen resoultions in Act of War, AoW: High Treason supports Widescreen and HD resolutions of the box!) but very hard to play even on easy. Not for beginners, and even veteran RTS played will have a hard time to beat it, especially the Add-on High Treason.

Don't play DLC!
Game by itself is 10/10. My only complain is lack of subtitles. It's like Generals, but with improved graphics, more cutscenes and slightly more realism. Just slightly. ... DLC though... ... Just... don't bother. DLC is 100% completely UNPLAYABLE due to absurd level of difficulty even on lowest difficulty level. We're talking about situation, when CPU keep spamming tanks and artillery from all directions and you're not even allowed to train troops. It's not "git gud" situation. It's just cheating. I wonder if Devs even tested this, before release... Just ignore DLC. You will only get mad and ruin that sweet, sweet impression after base game.

Крайне приятный среднячок
Act of War - это прекрасный пример того, как насквозь вторичная игра без особых собственных идей оказывается хорошей из-за того, что разработчики действительно старались. В интернете все называют её клоном C&C: Generals. Так оно и есть. Кат-сцены с живыми актёрами? Есть (в оригинале). Очерь строительства с возможностью апдейтов? Есть. Возможность заходить в здание и использовать его в качестве прикрытия? Есть. Но всё это меркнет перед тем, что оно работает. Бодрый боевик, стильные пафосные заставки, гибкий геймплей, позволяющий брать тактикой - всё это и есть Act of War. И что самое приятное - движок весьма качественный, прекрасно работает на Windows 10 x64. Просто попробуйте. Это не игра первого эшелона, как Warcraft 3, Company of Heroes или World in Conflict, но она способна уверенно стоять рядом с ними в одном ряду. PS на ModDB есть "мод", который добавляет в игру широкоформатные разрешения. Я успешно прошёл игру в 1920х1080 без глюков и сложностей. PS2 на игру прекрасно встаёт русификатор с официальным переводом, его вполне можно найти в комментариях раздачи на рутрекере. PS3 текстовый перевод на русский язык можно включить, изменив одну переменную в реестре. К сожалению, субтитров в игре нет, поэтому толку от этого не так много, как хотелось бы.

Satisfying Military Tactics
The story comes across as an entertaining B-picture, complete with FMV cutscenes and some absolutely ridiculous dialogue, but I wasn't expecting the amount of innovations in this game I wish were in other games! I really like the fact you gain money by capturing prisoners of war. It changes tactics from boring spam rushes of tanks when that means you kill everyone and lose the opportunity to arrest people. It feels very thematic to send in the marines to cuff survivors after battles and it allows you to manage your resources through your combat decisions. Your units gain experience from fights. It pays to keep an ambulance of medical chopper around to patch up your wounded veterans instead of just tossing them to the wolves without care. There's some surprisingly thematic ideas here like that that makes this game feel solidly like a modern military game. Enemy soldiers are easy to take out normally but when they get into vehicles or fortify a building suddenly you need to alter your approach. You can laboriously blow up the buildings they're hiding in...or if you're smart send in a team of soldiers to sweep the place with minimum casualties. There's so many little touches like that such as building tiers being Defcon conditions you need to activate and picture-in-picture videos showing what key moments in the story look like from the ground. You're dealing with terrorists so don't be surprised if you send in tanks without thinking...only to get them all destroyed by suicide trucks or missile launching enemies. Better make sure your marines are in APCs or taking cover in the trees. The graphics are pretty nice (especially the very pretty explosions) and run very fast! Music is thematic, vocals are appropriately gruff and there's a lot of comments your units can make given different conditions. This game goes wacky places in terms of gameplay and story but this keeps it fresh throughout! A fine tuned, thematic, fun RTS.
