Fun distraction, lacks depth

My only experience with this game prior to purchasing it on GOG was playing the demo from a 2001 PC Gamer magazine demo disc. Recalling its ahead-of-the-time physics, I decided to buy it and try it out. I have not tried multiplayer, but I imagine it would be fun to play the 'Destruction' mode against other humans. Pros: - There are a variety of gameplay modes. - Wide-open levels (larger than most games of its time). - Amazing physics (again, considering the time of release). Cons: - Singleplayer is quite shallow. - The computer AI is really simple and easy to defeat. They often get stuck and remain motionless for the duration of the round. - Music is extremely annoying.

a fine game with friends.

I still own the original boxed version .. and i can see how a new game FUEL is very much an graphical update. The single player although lacks depth does provide some needed practice before playing with friends and allows you to get to know each vehicles strengths espcially the handling as well as getting to know the landscape and the modes as trying to get to that gate before anyone else does depend on knowing where it will spawn next and the quickest way using the terrain. The graphics and sound are okay for its time but nothing special and the AI does not challenge most so do not expect them trying to ram you but rather crash into you by accident but feel free to bash into them just do not wreck your vehicle though in the process epscially if there is a nasty drop ahead of you. The range of vehicles is fairly decent each with different handling and can make a fun race but no real customization that you get in more recent games. Overall there isnt much to keep the average player interested but if you like this kind of chaos , racing offroad and crashing into other vehicles espcially with friends then its worth a try and is certainly good for those nostalgic types otherwise newer FUEL might be a better choice as both are much the same.

2 1nsane 2 be left behind

There is nothing like turning on the engine, press the speeder to the floor and just watch was you ram anyone out of your way while you leave a pile of junk behind, or have a stroke of bad luck as you can only watch your care be turned into a pile of junk and see the competition drive off with that trophy that should be yours! 1nsane has been my favorite racing games when it comes to demolition derby style games. i have yet to see any game out there to allow your care to be smashed up so badly the care just looks like some bad artist idea of "art" and still be able to press the speeder and watch as you drive the poor pile of junk around. I had once a ripped version of 1nsane, actually still have it, but the CD is all most to damaged so now i get the real deal. The sounds are amazing, and adding a little scare music to the sound folder and you can ram or T-bone your best friend while listening to some Safri Duo for example, or some star wars music or what ever strikes your fancy. Or you could go download a lot of new vehicles such as the famous school bus, or some new maps. all ways something to do in 1nsane. The graphics of the game still fit neatly along with our graphics of today, without be to requiring on the system. Don't Miss out 1nsane, even if racing games aren't your fancy, get it, throw on free roam and just chill out, throw on free roam in multi player and just chill out while you drive around, have a chat and a laugh, it's so worth your time!

Made for multiplayer

Insane is yet another racer with a shtick, from an era when racers where a dime a dozen. It isn't bad, per se, but it isn't good enough to recommend, especially as a single player experience. Level design is nice, although every level revolves around the same three elements - hills, plateaus and bodies of water. Plateaus are far and few between, hills are hard to climb but offer a shortcut, and bodies of water can get your car stuck, and can only be traversed in certain places, and only fairly slowly. Cars in this game feel fairly light and elastic, making their handling unexpected. You feel like you're steering a bouncy ball, so expect to skid and flip fairly often. It makes regular racing not very fun, so instead this game relies heavily on mini-games. Such as king of the hill, capture the flag, reach a certain gate first, etc. They can be somewhat fun, but the game is so poorly balanced, that within a minute you'll know if you're going to win or lose. Gain the lead in the first minute, and you're more than likely to win. Skid or flip within the first minute, and you'll have a hard time regaining the lead. Enemy AI isn't very good, so they'll opt to chase you down rather than flank you, making capture the flag fairly easy, and their path selection isn't the best, so king of the hill is very easy as well. You can just stand in place and earn points, while every other car is struggling to get to you. I got 100+ points that way, while the runner up had around 43 points. You're also forced to unlock these mini-games and these new tracks, which isn't a problem, but you're required to win events to unlock them, rather than reach a certain number of points. Which turns the game into a chore. For the game to actually be enjoyable you'll need to play with friends, that way the awkward physics will actually be enjoyable, and you'll also receive a proper challenge. A cheat to unlock every track wouldn't hurt either.

Funny, little Racer of the early 2000s

First of all- don't expect a Dirty Rallye or Project Cars. This is a silly, yet fun racing game with many, rather unusal concepts- such as collecting gates or capture the flag. Unfortunately, the 4k resolution doesnt work on my system but FullHD is fine. I played many racing games back in the day and some didn't age well- such as Need4Speed and such but this one I never played in the era but got it through recommendation.- what can I say? It's refreshing, cute and really fun if you're into that over the top style racing without much emphasis on realism/physics. I play it on a mini steering wheel(interact UltraRacer PC) through the Necroware Gameport Adapter. LOTS of fun :)
