Zombasite is a zombie apocalypse action RPG set in a dynamic, evolving, fantasy world for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
The dark elves have always played god by creating and enhancing underworld slave creatures. As they watched a horde of zombies destroy the huge demon city Kraval, the dark elves were tantalized by the devastating power of uncontrolled zombies, and desired to control and increase it. When they wove their dominating magic into a few captive zombies something went horribly wrong!
They hadn't known the powerful necromancer, Ciglio, had created these zombies. To control his huge armies of undead, Ciglio permanently bound his zombies and their infected victims to him. This binding was so powerful, their loyalty surpassed his untimely death. In the dark elves' pride and lust, their magic twisted into Ciglio's binding, fusing into a new, uncontrollable creation, the Zombasite.
Zombasite is a nasty, voracious, all-consuming Zombie Parasite. It doesn't just reanimate the dead into mindless zombies. It is intelligent, insatiable, and unstoppable---infecting and killing the living, spreading faster and in more ways, helping the dead utilize many of their original skills, and mutating the dead with new powers. Dark elf zombies are terrifying!
So what does this have to do with you? You are the leader of a clan trying to survive the apocalypse. This is easier said than done. When a follower dies, they can't be saved by any means. The Zombasite is highly contagious and zombies are quickly ravaging the world's surface. Food is a critical resource that must be obtained. Vendors are rare and have limited supplies. Some of the stronger monsters have survived and are as dangerous as ever. Clans of humans and monsters are fighting over what few supplies are left. Even within your own clan it isn't safe. Humans living on the edge are even more unstable than usual. So yeah, survival isn't easy.

PROS: + Big open world to explore. + Easier to get the hang of than Din's Curse. + You damn near stumble into side missions which help you to level up quickly. + Side quests are more streamlined than Din's Curse. + Specialized enemy encounters occur early in the immediate environment. + Online multiplayer and stats add to the fun. + Graphics look a bit more detailed than Din's Curse. + Modest hardware requirements.
CONS: - Frame rate isn't as smooth as Din's Curse. - Specialized enemies can cut you down early into the game. - $20 is a bit steep, but $15 (on sale) ain't bad.
VERDICT: Worth getting, but better on sale at $15 or less.
I own this on Steam, but I own Drox Operative from here. This is basically Depths of Peril 2: Now with Zombies. For those that didn't play DoP, this is Din's Curse but with a much larger world and a Drox-styled diplomacy system.
Pros:
- Lots to do
- Game is challenging, but difficulty can easily be adjusted
- Zombies can be turned off
- Hybrid Classes are just as good as in Din's Curse, though viability can still be all over the place
- NPC survivors are actually useful, though how to use them can be cryptic
- Moddable
Cons:
- Performance is still a bit iffy
- Graphics are beginning to look dated (if that matters to you)
- Game can seem gear-dependent, attribute-boosting gear is very much required if you want to minmax
- Town attacks can be relentless, though they have been dialed back a bit in recent updates
- Gold can be very useless at times
Overall, if you liked Drox Operative you'll probably like this. If you liked Din's Curse you'll probably like this though the scope is much larger and somewhat suffers because of it. Otherwise try the demo and look up some gameplay. This game is easy to get lost in and spend many hours playing, but won't be to everyone's taste which is why I give it 4/5.
Zombasite is an aRPG in the vein of games like Diablo and Torchlight. What really sets this game apart from the other games in the genre is Soldak Entertainment's additions to the genre. Every world you play in will have a different town, with different NPC's. Your town can be raided by other clans, zombie attacks, assassins, or even by other unique events such as diseases. The newest interesting addition to Soldak's aRPG formula is the Zombasite (zombie parasite) which is something you can contract, and even spread. Throughout trial an error, or by finding game lore, you can figure out how to cure the Zombasite. Not only are zombies a threat, but other clans will try to war against you. It's up to you to make peace with them, or to wipe them out entirely.
Compared to other aRPG's, this game has plenty of loot. There are several equipment slots - rings, amulets, armor, gloves, boots, bags, shawls, etc. You also have slots for town defenses such as doors to keep intruders out, relics for giving buffs to your NPC's, and slots for creatures to guard your town entrances. There is also a crafting system which allows you to use components to modify items, repair them, increase their durability, remove curse, add new effects, and even add gem slots to upgrade your items. The game features an overworld with random outdoor areas to explore, several dungeons, and other clan's settlements.
Character development is pretty deep in this game, you can choose between male and female, and pick one of the many classes. You may also create a multi-class character to create the perfect build, which is a well like feature of the game.
Overall, I preferred this game over other games in the genre - I like it more than Diablo II, Torchlight II, Grim Dawn, and even Path of Exile. If you enjoy any of these games, I recommend trying out the demo (Which is packed with content) and seeing if you enjoy the game enough to buy it.
Soldak games are ARPGs that focus not so much on their ARPG mechanics, but more on background stuff that's cooler. This particular game is a spiritual sequel to Depths of Peril, Soldak's first game, but it also includes innovations picked up from Din's Curse and Drox Operative.
Two basic system power this game:
1. Quests that are dynamic, random, and may expire. Fail to do things in time, and bad things will get worse. This leads to many random, desperate, yet highly enjoyable situations.
2. Clans that compete against you exist in the world and have their own quests. Do their quests to improve relations with them, or attack them to defeat them.
There are also a few other mechanics, such as survival elements -- vendors and health potions are rare and require foraging, and you need to take care of your few rag-tag survivors. This makes you pay close attention to the NPCs and lets you forge a connection with them.
There's also a zombie mechanism where NPCs can be zombified and fight against you, or you can contract the zombie virus yourself, but it's a fairly minor element overall.
The graphics have also been souped up since the last iterations. We now have bump-mapping and shadow casting, and outdoor areas are not just squares. While far from state-of-the-art, I find the graphics good enough and sometimes even excellent.
If you're willing to put up with some jank, this game is more than worth your money.
Ive played this game for almost 100 hours at the time of this writing, and I'd actually give it 3.5 stars if that were an option. The game is an action RPG with elements of city building in that you can recruit NPCs to be part of your clan. THe clan dynamic is simultaneously one of the good and bad aspects of the game. It is good in that it adds another element to the gameplay. The bad is that your clan members do incredibly frustrating things with disturbing frequency. They will fight each other, go insane, and get themselves killed without apparent rhyme or reason. It took me several restarts to figure out how the whole clan thing works. I liken it more to babysitting than anything else, and frankly the game would be much the same without this, but as I said it does add another element to the gameplay.
The game gives you several options to win, i.e. logistical (amass a great quantity of food), military (destroy all other clans), diplomatic (allied with all remaining clans), or adventure (solve a bunch of quests to "quite down" the area). In practice though, after a while it becomes a grind. Pretty much the entire game is kill/be killed. Given that it is an action RPG, one should expect that, so Im not criticing based on those grounds.
Overall, get it on sale and boot it up whenever you dont want to think much and just want to kill stuff.
