Hot fix version working
Bought the 2 pack on sale. No problems with Old Blood but New Order ran terrible. Downloaded the hotfix version of New Order a couple of days ago and seems to have fixed the constant hangups and crashes so far. Thanks to GOG for promptly updating the game. Happy killing Nazis!

Default GOG version runs smooth now
AMD Ryzen 7 - GTX 1060 - 16GB RAM - Win10 - very slow WD HDD (Blue) The 'most helpful' reviews are from Feb 2020, all complaining about 'technical issues' without stating their hardware specs or use of 3rd party tools or driver versions. I chose to ignore these reviews and bought it on GOG regardlessly. The default game runs out of the gate in maxed out settings - without any 'hot-fixes' or 3rd party 'unofficial patches'. Safe to buy. Game itself of course is amazing, as everyone raved about it on release day. German customers can get the uncensored original English version (unlike on Steam). The way it was meant to be played.

A New Wolfenstein for the Modern Era
Wolfenstein: New Order is an effective reboot for the franchise that not only modernizes the trademark Nazi slaughtering gameplay, but also transports it from the dated World War II trappings into a (comparatively) modern setting. Taking place in an alt-history 1960 where the Third Reich has spread out all across the globe, you play as BJ Blaskovich as he has to contend with how to combat this terrifying new world order (don't worry, it still involves shooting, stabbing and strangling a LOT of Nazis). I don't think it can be overstated how much a difference the dramatic shift in setting has on this game. In Wolfenstein and a lot of media, the danger of Nazism and fascism is often showcased as a now defeated threat usually constrained to the second World War. Even though New Order is set in 1960, the schizo tech makes it feel much closer to our present, which makes keeping the grotesque nature of Nazism in the foreground feel all the nearer. Seeing the inside of a concentration camp after escaping a fairly modern looking Berlin patrolled by Nazi police officers paints a wider and more terrifying image than games still set in World War II, where the Nazis being defeated is a forgone conclusion. Here the struggle feels far more insurmountable, something made more poignant with the stronger focus on story and characters exploring their own doubts and despair facing this dystopic reality. This synergizes well with gameplay. It's not JUST killing Nazis for fun anymore, every one you take out feels like another small step on a long and difficult path to victory. A combination of big set pieces and fast paced shooting creates for an exciting combat, while the lack of modern recharging health keeps encounters tense, and the hub area between missions let's the story breathe and gives you a chance to talk to the other characters, so you never forget what you're fighting for. New Order is a great game for anyone wanting a big single-player shooter that has some bite to it.

This game slaps, Addon is even superior
After 50 hours of relentless Nazi-killing and Uber Completion I can safely say this is in the Top 5 of best shooters I ever played. The gunplay is absolutely juicy, even the most basic assault rifle already feels like carnage, and don't get me started on how over the top the semi automatic shotgun feels. The stealth is decent, simple, gimmickless without wallhacks or executions from a mile away. I was honestly surprised by the story, yes, your comrades rarely appear in gameplay but their personality and traumas carry the narrative. Sadly, the game does not feature any supernatural lore or gameplay like The Old Blood or older titles, it's completely focused on the political dystopia and sciene-fiction elements, probably to appeal to a more mainstream audience. All in all an exceptional effort by Machine Games, these days even uncensored in Germany so the purchase is an absolute no-brainer, get the Two-Pack with The Old Blood, which is an even better standalone addon, and play both.

A high quality, brutal FPS.
While I don’t have as much enthusiasm for The New Order as some people seem to, I still consider it a really good game, especially put in the context of its 2014 release. For starters, W:TNO has undeniable atmosphere. The graphics are good, the technology designs and set pieces are pure eye-candy… It takes its sweet time to build its world and characters, telling its story through cutscenes and playable sections devoid of combat, and ends up being very compelling as a result. Also, despite being a pulpy tale featuring alternate history, giant robots and eccentric characters, W:TNO has no qualms about putting the most horrifying aspects of the Nazi ideology on display, so brace yourself for some very crude scenes. The gunplay is very straightforward and satisfying. The awesome thing is that pretty much any weapon can be dual-wielded and handles like an anti-aircraft gun, tearing through walls and Nazis alike and unleashing chaos with each pull of the trigger! The stealth system is pretty simple, but it’s very functional and overall one of the most enjoyable I’ve seen in an FPS game – plus, it’s always an option and never forced upon you! However, I found TNO’s campaign to have a weird pace (it’s not uncommon to have long intervals between firefights), and uneven game design at times. The combat areas and enemy placement feel hit or miss: a few combat zones are just kind of empty and uninteresting, making for bland hostile encounters, and the game overrelies on bullet-spongy enemy types as a cheap way to amp up the challenge. It’s the type of game that makes you want to go all guns blazing, but instead mostly encourages you to cower behind cover. So yeah, W:TNO can be rough around the edges… But in both its gameplay and its storytelling, it’s a compelling, daring and uncompromising game, even more so considering that it was released in a time when this type of old school shooter was not in fashion anymore. Every FPS enthusiast out there should give it a try.
