A Modern View On Old Fables

I don't want to spoil more that the description in the game's page because part of the joy in the comic book series Fables and in the Wolf Among Us is getting to know this world from the inside, but suffice to say that you get to play as Bigby the Sheriff haunted by his past who is in charge of protecting and keeping the law among the Fables community (that includes such people as Snow White, Bluebeard, Beauty and the Beast hiding in plain sight in the human world with the help of magic), and have to investigate a murder mystery while making choices that can help as much as hamper your investigation with dialogue options similar to Telltale's The Walking Dead (TWD) games. Unlike TWD however, if you are familiar with the comic books there are some moments where the suspense might not be as intense since you already know the main characters' story arch in the series... Aside from that, Telltale made an excellent game with their now-well tested formula (little to no puzzles/inventory with some environment exploration plus quick time events and heavy emphasis on real time dialogue choices), the visual style is loyal to the comics while the mood and character voices are great, it is eerie how much they sound like I imagined they would while reading Fables years ago. My very high rating is influenced by how much I liked the first series of Fables, its noir vibe and dark look at the cheery "And They Lived Happily Ever After" ending to the fairy tales that we got to hear as kids, and how much the Wolf Among Us borrows from it. Even if that doesn't spike your interest, it is still an interesting modern point&click adventure game by Telltale Games with another good example of how to successfully use a comic book license.

Great story and frustrating gameplay.

A TellTale game, you know... First of all, the story and the characters are great, but considering the source material - it's a given. TellTale really made the comic come to life in the best way possible. Besides the Borderlands game, this is also a first time the graphic engine and the style is a perfect fit. However, the gameplay is just as frustrating as the rest of them. The game constantly makes you feel that you make some very heavy and fate-deciding choices, all the while knowing TellTale's games, none of it matters. Replay it all you want - nothing will change, except for a dialoge line here and there. At times, you see it even without replaying, where a seemingly important choice gets ignored by the characters right there in the scene, continuing the script regardless. Still, I can't say I didn't enjoy it. I did. Very much. So, if you can stomach the very limited interactivity and appretiate the story - this game is probably the best TellTale made so far.

Superior Entertainment Experience.

I liked this so much I played it twice in a row. Can't say I've liked any game enough to do that for at least a decade. While the standard complaint about Telltale adventures is that your choices as a player don't make a huge impact on the plot what they WILL do, is make your relationships with other characters and what kind of information you are privy to, a very different experience depending on your responses to those NPCs and how the plot unfolds. The story was well written and a fun noir about "fables' aka characters from fables living in the mundane world. You play as Bigby who is trying to reform from his place in fableland as the Big Bad Wolf to a position of respect as the sheriff. You can respond as Bigby either as a BBW trying to put his blackhearted past behind him or as an "end justifies the means" pragmatist and numerous gray shadings in-between. The character development is fabu and there are plenty of varied characters with personal motivations that drive the well-devised, plot. It's less emotional than the Walking Dead but it's far less depressing and more plot-driven which I liked. The fighting sequences [I thought] were better than the Walking Dead's but in all the TT games, I found the Hollywood flash editing of changing camera points of view in the middle of the altercation beyond annoying and frustrating. Fortunately, it tends to save a lot so Bigby doesn't have to fight the entire scene if the player doesn't immediately figure out exactly which control is the one that will actually do the job. It's mainly an interactive story which, if you are okay with that, will provide you with a superior entertaining experience.

Better than The Walking Dead

The Wolf Among Us is the shortest Telltale adventure game series I've played so far but it's turned out to be one of my favourites. Its unique setting with downtrodden fairy tale characters living in an 80s New York (courtesy of Bill Willingham's Fables) seems to be a perfect match for an adventure game - or a visual novel with Quick Time Events (which I believe is a more accurate description of Telltale's adventure games from the past couple of years). Is it better than The Walking Dead? I personally think so, but only because I like solving murder mysteries. Both games are good in their own right but while one explores the human condition against a backdrop of zombie apocalypse, the other provides a grittier, seedier epilogue to fairy tale characters we grew up learning about as kids.

My game is a comics

Not sure if this is game enought. More like interactive comics. Player have little to do, only picking dialogue options, some quick time events, and occasional point and click adventure. The setting is very interesting (for me) and characters fun to interact, main 2 (wolf and snow) are easy to like. The story is ok, there is mystery, and dog on trail. The bad thing is that main antagonist is shown to us, not something we learn by ourselves (looking for clues). Graphic, and sounds are ok. The main problem with game is that it seems to be too much independent from player's actions. No matter what you pick you will end with similar events, so it is more about who we want annoy on our way and which leg break. We make a lot of decisions, but i do not think most of them matters. But comic is good.
