Clearly still in development

If you want nostalgia, this game has it in spades, even the old Wizardry maps have been imported. For something brainless yet not brain numbing, it's great. The interface is clunky but that's how it was on my old Apple II+ it is just as clunky now (some mouse support would be great....). But there is work to be done. The game gives you 6 ready made level 2 characters to kick start you into the realm, you can't delete them, I continued a game & the characters I had created were no longer there, just the 6 ready made characters that you can't delete and are always going to be a nuisance and in the way. So, work to be done still but I don't think the company will abandon this one.

Great Classic with some updates

This is an early release so I will not grade it down for any bugs like some other reviews. This is what it is, it's a classic game that was brought back to play on new computers. The game play is just like the old game, we have updated graphics and the same game play. This was brought back so new players and old can go back into the dungeon and play this very old classic game. The fighting is turn based and I still love that. This game runs on the orginal game code in unity so you are able to play the original game they way it was designed back in 1981, You can play this game with the updated graphics and sound with some new features as they add them into the game. This is an early .1 release so it's discounted for purchase, you will have to expect bugs and updates that will be coming. This including mouse support in the October game update along with more sounds and other features.. We are lucky to be able to get an early play of the game at a discounted price. Right now you have to use the keyboard for all controls but that is ver easy to do. When you start the game you are playing the updated game, you do have the option to toggle on or off the old or new version as you play. The graphics and very nice and game play is fun and challenging. You can follow Digital Eclipse and they will be giving updates on all the features that are coming. When all the updates and done this will have some very nice updates to a classic game. If you loved the organ game then this is basically the same game with improved graphics and sound. When the new features are added in this will end up being a very cool classic game with some ver welcome updates. If you love the classic dungeon crawlers this is one of the finest classics you can get. Updates are coming and some very nice ones !!!!!

Wiz 1

Never played this game; started the Wizardry series with Wizardry 5, with Wizardry 6 being my favourite of the series, some 32 years after first playing it. Felt I needed to explore the true roots of Wizardry and one of the formative games of the entire genre. Only up to Level 4 for my characters but enjoying the game a lot. I do like that I am able to pick and choose among some of the old vs modernized gameplay/QoL options. Always liked the class change options in Wizardry. So far, exploration and combat have been fun although my mage has been surprisingly useless to date, I do not like the vim/age mechanic and plan to turn it off for resting - only my magic users ever need to rest and hard to accept that they get older so much faster than my fighters. Resting should not make the 'resters' older than the rest of the team. Also would have liked an option to allow my back row to have reach weapons so they aren't so useless. Afterall. when facimg two groups of enemies, both can hit me while my response capability is much more limited. But quibbles aside, one can see why Wizardry 1 founded a genre.

Nostalgia meets Quality of Life!

The devs did an amazing job balancing respect for the OG game's unforgiving nature while still managing to allow you to make some settings choices that respect your playtime as well. Make no mistake, though, this is still a brutal dungeon crawl that will likely eat the unprepared for breakfast. (and even the well-prepared)

A job of love

The game is amazing. The price may be steep and sadly they did take the original remastered music from the pre-order out (for legal reasons it seems). But the new music is good and gameplay is smooth. A worthy revisit to Wizardry. I do hope they add some DLC in form of Wiz 2,3 and 5 which use the same engine.
