Whispers of a Machine is a Sci-Fi Nordic Noir that tells the story of Vera, a cybernetically augmented special agent tasked with investigating a string of murders. These brutal killings obscure a sinister truth, as Vera soon finds ties to a group of fanatics committed to creating an AI superintelligence — a pursuit outlawed for nearly a century.

Complicating things, a great loss from Vera's past comes back to haunt her, making her question her own sanity and everything she stands for.

As an agent of the Central Bureau, Vera is equipped with an advanced nano-substance called Blue. This rare and sought-after technology allows her to develop superhuman abilities adapted to her psychological mindset.

What I hate most in an adventure game...

... is when I can't go on, even while following a walkthrough. I mean : Day 3 (about 3/4 of the game) I have to find a quote from the favourite book of a guy whose I have the DNA signature. I go to this guy's room, the are some books. Whatever I do, when clicking the book, the game keeps tell me "mostly history books and some fictional novels" and just keeps those books in place. Hey ! I scan those books with the DNA signature of this guy ! I have to find what book is his favourite one ! So I desperately search the Internet for a walkthrough, and find one. At this point of the game, I'm supposed to go to this guy's room and check the books. That's EXACTLY what I do ! and that doesn't work ! One star, since I can't give it less.

Script is NOT by Dave Gilbert

That other review is trying to sell this game as being written by Wadjet Eye's Dave Gilbert, but that's not the case. As with Kathy Rain, which was these guys' previous game, Dave Gilbert DIRECTED the voice acting, he has nothing to do with the 4,000+ lines of dialogue. As for my rating, I guess I'm a bit tired of all the AGS games "paying homage" to the classics of old. And while I loved Kathy Rain to bits, I'm pretty positive "Sci-Fi Nordic Noir" is not something I care about in the least. Just... please, start trying to do other stuff, we get it, we all love Wadjet Eye (even though their best games aren't even developed by Wadjet Eye), but this shameless emulation of a formula that works is getting kind of tiresome.
