Darkest Survivors
Whacking Hell comes recommended if you're into the bullet heaven genre made popular by Vampire Survivors. It's harder than other bullet heaven games and as such you will have to pay more attention than you usually do in these kind of games. You can eventually do lots of damage and have good clear speed, but you will always have to look out. I like that. It has an attractive gothic art style reminiscent of Darkest Dungeon and the music is OK;-) Options include Window mode, Resolution, BGM volume and SFX volume. As is typical for bullet heaven games, there's no story, you simply start a run by picking a character, starting weapon and stage. There's a good assortment of spells (rare ones are colored purple) and passives to choose from when leveling up. Weapons/spells can be upraded to level 6 (ultimate) and you get to choose between two final special enhancements for any weapon/spell that is made ultimate. There's also a synergy function so that weapons/spells can empower each other. All characters have a specific 5-second boost that can be activated and recharges slowly. Each of the 3 stages has two bosses, the first arrives at 10 minutes and the other arrives 10 minutes after you the defeat the first one. You win the stage by defeating the second boss. On the Upgrades screen you can unlock permanent upgrades, new characters, new weapons, one-use benefits, modifiers that increase difficulty but grant more resources, and resource conversion. Usually I don't write reviews, but when I reported a critical bug in the offline installer version of the game, the devs fixed it quickly. So this review serves as a thank you. Overall I really enjoy Whacking Hell, but there could be more content for sure. I hope to see more bullet heaven games on GOG.
