A Postapocalyptic Classic

I never really played the original, I thought its user interface was too clunky and the gameplay was mildly offputting compared to e.g. Gold Boxes of the same era. Now I forced myself to complete the game, and it was worth it. Wasteland, as a game, still isn't perfect. It has its good sides – believable wasteland with memorable places, plotline that fits the theme, NPCs , gear. But as a whole, there's lot to be desired. The most annoying part are the random encounters which are way too common, combine this with the XP system which only rewards XP to characters who do the kills...or use their skills. As a word of advice, increase combat text speed ASAP, you'll thank me later (n.b. in some more difficult areas, it's good to slow it back down!). The UI is practically the same as in the non-remastered version, but it kind of works OK if you ignore the mouse. Inventory management is PITA in early game, but GAMBLING solves most of the issues as you can ignore looting for money. Alas, gambling also gives XP to the character so it also levels them up (word of advice: LUCK is a great stat both in and out of combat). Overall, it's not as memorable as, say, the aforementioned Gold Box games, but it's definitely worth trying.

No Nostalgia and No Fun

I desperately wanted to like this game but I absolutely did not I have no nostalgia for the game, I've never played it before. I love the games of it's legacy such as Fallout and all the amazing CRPGs that followed so I was hyped to give the OG a go but yeah... no To say gameplay is clunky and dated is an understatement. It is painfully unfun and I'm usually a fan of retro games. I understand this has a fresh coat of Unity paint but my opinion is the same for both versions I am sure there are some who will love this sort of game and to them I say go for it. If you're not, look elsewhere

Delightfully Old Fashioned

This game is ancient, old-fashioned, anachronistic. And that's probably why you ought to play it. Wasteland Remastered still wears the original game on its sleeve, to both good and bad effects. It's still a little obtuse, sorely needing a guide to really get going though these days that might be part of the charm. The game still has some work to be done to it. Primarily, I would ask to add key-macros and some way to zoom out. Your vision is obscured to about half of the screen because of the UI, leaving you to kind of just pick a direction to walk and incidentally stumble across what you were supposed to be looking for in the first place. Similarly, the game needs some quality of life improvements. Being able to batch-select items for selling/trading would go a long way to making stores a less frustrating experience. Additionally, I think Thrasher ought to have his own protrait since Snake Vargas got an updated one to be similar to his Wasteland 2 portrait. I can tell this remake was made with love and care, so I have no doubts many of these issues will be fixed in good time. I'm looking forward to how this game will change for the better in time and hope to finish/replay this game over and over again.

Just wasteland whats not to love.

Only played for 2-3 hours so far and what can I say but "its wasteland" nothing removed and nothing too game changing put in. Really its just a re-skin of the old games and a lot of quality of life changes thrown in. If you liked the old game but find it hard to go back to then this is for you. If you never herd of wasteland then check it out but I would recommend reading a walk through for the first couple of places. The bad.. Key macros I feel these should have been put in as an option rather than having to set your own up, for example you want to heal someone who is -18 health you have to type U for use, 4 for the person with medic, 1 for skills then 3 for medic skill. all that for 1 health point if you succeed which you wont so you have to type that in maybe 30 times or set a macro. The Good.. I am not one for fancy pants graphics but they do the job nicely, but its the sounds that work well and the narration is on point in fact beyond on point. Nice little cutscenes that don’t detract from the original game and add to the world building brilliantly. Im going to play through this for the 3rd time now and I am going to enjoy it so 5 stars shame about the repeat last command button not being included.

It's a grindfest!

It's pretty annoying fighting a single possum for 3 or 4 full turns because no one hits. And it happens constantly. Raising some stats even by lots of points seems to do nothing. You're better off with the original unless you want to play with a controller. It gets another star if you play with a controller.
