Take Command of Your Battlegroup
The Cold War-era armed forces of six nations - aligned to NATO or Warsaw Pact - can be led into a hyper-detailed World War III: U.S., West Germany, United Kingdom, and France square off against the Soviet Union and East Germany. From conscripts and main battle tanks to mobile SAM systems, self-propelled artillery, scout helicopters, strike aircraft, and fast interceptors, each WARNO nation has its unique arsenal of vehicles, planes, and soldiers.
More than 1000 different military units are featured, such as the mighty M1A1 Abrams, the British MCV-80 Warrior, French Gazelle scout helicopters, German Leopard tanks, Spetsnaz special forces, SU-25 Frogfoot, the East German KPz T-55AM2 or Mil Mi-24 Hind helicopter gunships. I discovered this game almost by chance, looking for something different from the strategy games I'd played. I play solo, I like to pause the games, and it has a lot of content for solo play. I'm terrible at it, but I learn something with every game I play, and above all, I have a lot of fun. Also, the fact that it has a Spanish division is something I'd never seen in any other game, and I really enjoy playing with my country. I love it.
This game is mixed between Wargame Red Dragon settings mixed it up with a few features from Steel Division 2 but sadly, it doesn't retain the frontline mechanic from the latter.
The most beautiful EUGEN System game to date, but also the most optimised one so far. It's better than W: RD, but it's not better than SD 2.
If you have to pick only one between WARNO or SD 2, then pick it based on the setting that you like. Both games are great.
WARNO retains W: RD mechanics with the most apparent is sector system instead of frontline mechanic. But this time, it has imported LoS feature from SD 2. Although it has much better tutorial explaining various aspect of the game but still one need dozens of hours before one is ready to delve into MP.
The gameplay here is faster than SD 2, much of it because the settings which allow modern automatic targeting technology compared to WW 2. So, expect a much faster and chaotic and abit spamming everything here.
Nevertheless, it is still a great game and a cut above other RTS on the market right now (except ones like Graviteam or Combat Mission) on realism and authenticity factors.
Lastly, the game runs very well even on low end system.
Gameplay is always the same. SPAM MLRS and HELI. This game is fine for 40-50 hours then it has shown everything is capable of.
The single player is more lackluster than SD2... General mode is a joke. Skirmish is ok but the A.I. is all-over the place. The biggest dogshits are the operations! LAZY LEVEL DESIGN, TRASH A.I. ART. The devs didn't even test their missions, the difficulties are sometimes JOKE like the last Bundeswehr one or grinders like the British escape.
F. you Eugen! Nothin good came after you dropped Wargame and SD1.
More units, More maps, MORE micro managing macro amounts of units required.
Less player agency, less narative, more monotone grind on maps that look the same and subjectivly less fun.
Range finder was really the only major advantage.
Warning Order (WARNO) is one of the best RTS games I have played, the base game has a lot to offer and on top of the countless DLCs there are also 10s of thousands of mods ready for you to consume!! 100% recommend, buy now!
