Discover the grim dark universes of Warhammer where there is only war. From Warhammer 40,000 to Warhammer Fantasy and more - discover it all on GOG Warhammer Franchise page.
Take control of one of the most technologically advanced armies in the Imperium - The Adeptus Mechanicus. As Magos Dominus Faustinius, you’ll lead the expedition on the newly rediscovered Necron planet of Silva Tenebris. Customize your team, manage resources, discover long-forgotten tech, and control your Tech-Priests’ every move.
Your every decision will shape the missions ahead and ultimately decide the fate of the troops under your command in over 50 hand-crafted missions. Choose your path carefully - the Imperium depends on it.
Augment
Flesh is weak! Upgrade your Tech-Priests with weapons, support items, Servo-Skulls and other mechanical augments as you assemble your cohort. Customize your team’s disciplines, choosing from multiple character classes to create a squad for every playstyle.
Unique Tactical Combat
Engage in immersively strategic combat that will test your mettle under the extreme pressure of the xenos ambush. Access your most powerful weapons and abilities by using Cognition Points and advance on your enemy without pause. Fear not, the Omnissiah favours the brave.
The Library of Immersion
A compelling story written by Black Library author, Ben Counter, specifically crafted to fit the unique personality of the Adeptus Mechanicus faction, with each character having their own personalities and agendas. Feel the tension and admire the devotion with unique visual effects and breathtaking audio.
Difficult Decisions
Make tough decisions that will forge the future from your Ark Mechanicus, The Caestus Metalican, and send you towards alternate endings for a truly unique playthrough. Be warned, however, the more you explore each tomb, the greater the rewards but also greater the threat.
Canticles of the Omnissiah
Collect in-game achievements and be rewarded with strong abilities that can be used once per mission to aid you in the heat of battle.
Love this game and its fantastic music. The combat is incredibly fine tuneable to your tastes and I look forward to the sequel, hoping that it maintains this high standard of quality.
Warhammer 40k: Mechanicus is a turn-based tactical that sees you in command of the Adeptus Mechanicus (basically a cyborg cult who are also privately militarized Research & Development for the Imperium of Man's government).
Mechanicus sees you exploring a tomb world, augmenting your Tech-Priests and fighting undead space killbots called Necrons. It's part CYOA, part XCOM and really fun... But it's not perfect, the game has shortcomings (attacks not working as intended, graphically it's there. As a huge fan of 40k I can look at a unit in-game and immediately recognize it's tabletop counterpart, but it's by no means a "stunning" game especially when you look at the competition like XCOM 2, Phoenix Point and other similar games, this isn't helped by the game's nonadjustable Depth of Field...
However, good 40k games are seemingly hard to come by these days, so let me talk about what makes this game special. The sound design is phenomenal everything from the cyborg Simlish the AdMech speak during story moments, to the way the guns sell a brutal and Grimdark setting, and the music is perhaps some of the best used for a 40k game, it's space church music and it works perfectly with this game. The story itself is astounding, with each of the dehumanized Tech-Priests/Magi bickering among each other about the task at hand as you explore the Necron Tomb World. The plot is that you're an exploration force who is tasked with finding out as much about Necrons or just blowing them up. It's your call, you just have to make the decisions, you do this in the CYOA segments before fighting in battle (it's a dungeon crawler first, then a turn-based tactics game). Everything you're doing feels like it holds some kind of weight to the grand scheme of things. The combat is refreshingly simple, if you're in range you can hit the enemy, none of those frustrating 98% chances "to hit", and good enemy variety.
What you've got here is a game by fans for fans: I really hope they make a sequel.
This game **GETS** Warhammer 40K. The presentation is flawless - everything from the intro video, the soundtrack, the voice acting, the graphics to UI just oozes Mechanicus. Special spotlight goes to the incredible soundtrack which completely sells the techno-gothic feel of this world.
Additional good news is that behind the presentation there's a very well built tactical game as well - with good campaign connecting a challenging set of battles acted out by your customizable techpriest forces. It has multiple endings, multiple paths through the campaign and good storytelling to go along.
If there's one criticism it would be that towards the end the game can get too easy and a bit repetitive. But for the price of admission, this is easily one of the best Warhammer 40K games on the market and also one of the best turn based tactical games as well. Don't miss out on it.
I had heard that the atmosphere was great but damn... until you put headphones on and play this game you just won't understand.
The OST especially. It's very bass-y and unf I love it. I've been listening to it while writing for my D&D campaign and it's just really damn good.
I've not played a lot of turn based strategy games besides the first Xcom a little and Darkest Dungeon so I'm not a good resource for comparisons but it seems solid enough. I like that as long as you have the CPs you can do extra stuff and still do all the stuff you haven't done like attack. I'd love an overwatch ability but eh.
The only criticism I can make is that depth of field effect is really annoying.
Love the wealth of difficulty options, I love it when games do that. Sure I usually leave them on default the first time, but the second time now that I know what I'm doing I like cranking things up to the max and seeing how bad I truly am at the game. And I know a lot of people that love that too so kudos to the dev team for inclusion!
Overall if you like 40k and turn based strategy pick it up! It's definitely worth the price I paid for it on sale but now I feel a little bad I hadn't bought this earlier so I'm gonna go ahead and pick up the Heretek DLC to make up for it.
Here's to more games from this dev team! You guys are something special and I hope you all get to make more games!
So I actually bought this game specifically on GOG because of a sale, but regardless, you should play this game! I am not generally a fan of tactical, nor had I ever heard of warhammer before, but I bought this game on the art style and premise alone. If you are new to tactical: good news! the game is fully customizable (much like how their characters are augmented) and you can suit the game to your playstyle/ level. So it is definiately a fun game, with amazing music and art and it was ridiculously fun to get into warhammer lore!
This game is waiting for a review. Take the first shot!
