Great but for the translations
Looks great, gameplay is fantastic, humour is passable. The only thing detracting from it, that I think is worth mentioning, is the fact that the grammar, due to poor translations (?), gives it a slightly cheapo feel.

Only okay
Turns out mixing RPG-mechanics with a platformer becomes quite fiddly as time goes by. Changing weaposn and using certain spells as the situation changes just feels increasingly awkward. The boss fights tend to be all over the place as far as difficulty is concerned rather than following a steady curve. That said, the overall gameplay still works relatively well. What brings the game really down though is the telltale marks of its hobbyist project origins. The many out of place and overplayed "nerd" references and the general grating sophomoric humor and unlikable protagonist just work against me having fun with the game.

Unepic? Yea right it Epic.
This game is great, I haven't really played a game like it before and I haven't even played these type of platformer games in a long time. Anyway going into this I didn't know what to expect but I think I played 9 hours of it over 2 days on the weekend and I am impressed, it's fun and it's difficult. I like the way all the weapons and armors look on the character and I hope to beat the game very soon!

Living up to it's name
Unepic is a pretty weird and dividing game. At first I thought that this was an amazing game but by the end, it made a pure 180 degree turn. After spending 20+ hours and arriving at the "final boss" area, I just gave up on it. I preferred to just watch the ending online than to spend another few hours grinding and preparing for a lackluster ending. Unepic is a combination of very old-school game mechanics and tropes packed in a platformer presentation. It borrows some inspiration from Metroidvania games, but it is absolutely linear. It features a very old CPRG level-up system which punishes you if you make wrong choices. And that's just the thing... the game is in such a way created that if feels tedious and annoying regardless of your specialization. Boss fights can drive you crazy if you don't have a good build. There's a single save point in the hole game and a long section to travel back to where you were. Also all monsters respawn. In the last part of the game, the developers even make fun of your frustration and expect bad reviews for the game. GG! The magic system is probably the most sinister that I ever seen. Casting magic requires essence which can be randomly dropped by certain monsters. But it is in short quantities and you'll end up buying a lot. Robes are also a joke. You'll pretty much play the game unarmored just to save some essences. Played it on Linux and it works great, but there is no multiplayer and the controller doesn't work... Which makes the Linux version way inferior to the Windows build. Because it was a complete anti-player experience, I decided to give myself some extra resources to lessen the grind. Well, guess what... they went all the way to implement an anti-cheating system for single player... If you try to cheat, you'll die and the pet will troll you until you restart the game. Do yourself a favor and just avoid it. Imho, the frustratingly long and lackluster experience isn't worth it.

Spend your cash elsewhere
Buy La Mulana or Shovel Knight or Rogue Legacy something else instead. It's a mildly fun game, but the whole thing comes across as somebody's senior project. As has been noted in other reviews the humor is crap, jokes and references are put in for no real reason. The design choice to have the game only show one screen at a time kinda makes it feel old school, except I don't remember Mega Man ever being that tiny...if you do play this you had best be right up on your monitor. The boss fights are...okay. They're not great and most seem to revolve around finding a safe spot and spamming damage than actually finding a pattern to the boss. If you can pick it up for like $5 then I say maybe go ahead, otherwise skip it.
