Love letter gone wrong...

This game with it's post apocalyptic theme and turn based combat is supposed to be a love letter to classics like Fallout, X Com and few others, and man...it's fails so hard to deliver. When you draw inspiration form a classic game you try to take the best from it and make it even better, this game does exactly the opposite, this game is more basic and bare in execution than classics that were realesed 20 years ago! Combat is just awful (Turn based Arcanum combat is really good comparing to this!), it's save/load and re-entring maps festival all over the place, messy interface and inventory, after 55 hours of gameplay I've done like 8 quests, seriously.....Borderlands after 30 hours offered like 70 + quests and it's not even a proper rpg it's looter shooter! The only thing I really liked are pretty good dialogs and neat oldschool graphics, but that's not enough when the rest of the game is literally broken, sorry I'll stick to my beloved Fallout 1 and 2.

UnderRail made me Derailed. UnDerailed.

I have a lot to say about this game, so I'll keep it as brief as possible. First of all, this game is a pretty decent spiritual successor to Fallout 1 & 2. Many people disagree, but I haven't been invested in a game like this since I first played Fallout Several years ago. This game was made by a small set of people and I was amazed to find that the credits screen was only one page at the end. I first heard of this game through SsethTzeentach's review on YouTube, so for a comedic review look at that. As for the game itself, this is a game for people that don't care about graphics and extreme polish and are looking for a well written story. This is a game that has decent artwork to portray the world but really shines through in character dialogue and quest design. There is a broad range of skills, feats and builds for the combat, which is again decent. The DLC really enriches the game with extra lore and a new perspective of the world of UnderRail. It will be difficult for new players like myself, who often need to refer to a wiki to get clarification on a few things like quest objectives, but that didn't devalue the experience to me overall as the payoff was worth it. The Atmosphere and Soundtrack is perfect for every location in the game. If you liked Fallout 1 & 2 then you may like this game, all I can say is give it a decent shot and you will have many hours well spent. Unless you get addicted, that is.

Incredible game

About 50 hours in, nearing the end of the main quest line. Still a fair amount of side quests I can go back to, and I haven't touched the expansion yet. Absolutely amazing RPG so far. Combat is usually my least favorite part of CRPGs, but in Underrail I look forward to combat. It's challenging and fun while remaining grounded. The dialogue is well written, and I found even unimportant characters memorable. So far I like the plot, but admittedly even 50 hours in and almost at the end, I have no clue what's going on with the main conflict. It appears the game intends to reveal everything all at once at the end. Both main factions are so secretive it borders on annoying. Anyway this game is probably gonna end up being my favorite CRPG. Top 3 easily.

Great RPG!

Spent 130h in two weeks of holidays. Seems like my progression after that is near 60%, so game has a lot of time killing mechanics, I think. And good RPG, quests, lore, personalities. Despite of minor issues with graphics, sometimes too unbalanced battles, sometimes not obvious mechanics and quests (e.g. I've found and completed all Fallout 2 quests without Internet at all, but some Underrail quests/mechanics I can't overcome without wiki) - this game is good old immersive post apocalypse. Love it so much!

UnderRail Still Great

Great Fallout like game, with lot's of RPG elements ... just need to get past a steep learning curve.
