Welcome back to the world of "Umineko When They Cry." (When Seagulls Cry)
Welcome back to the Rokkenjima of October 4, 1986.
You have once again been given a chance to catch a glimpse of the family conference held annually by the Ushiromiya family. The remaining life in the old family head who has built up a vast fortune is very slim.
To his children, the greatest point of contention at this family conference is the distribution of his inheritance.
Everyone desires all that money, no one relents, and no one believes.
Who will gain the old head's vast inheritance? Where is the 10 tons of gold that the old head is said to have hidden? Can the unnerving riddle of the epitaph which is said to point to the location of that gold be solved?
In the midst of this, a suspicious letter is sent from one claiming to be a witch. The presence of a 19th person on this island, which should only have 18, begins to hang in the air.
Brutal murders repeat, and unsolvable riddles are left at the scene. How many will die? How many will live? Or will everyone die?
Is the culprit one of the 18, or not?
Is the culprit a "human", or a "witch"?
Please, enjoy this isolated island, western mansion, mystery-suspense gadget of the good old days to the fullest.

The mysteries, characters, soundtrack, story, I loved every element of it, the pacing was excessively slow and it did feel padded or dragged on at times but my overall experience was so good it doesn't affect my score in the slightest.
I downloaded and read Umineko a few years ago with an unofficial translation, I postponed buying it long enough.
Without going into spoilerific details, that island and the events that occurred in it, the family, the servants, the music that accompanies it all, they will always have a particular place in my heart and I hope this supports the people involved in creating this work and encourgages others to delve into this beautiful story.
*Don't worry, no spoilers*
So a super wealthy Japanese family meet on their fancy and mysterious island. All the characters have their own funny and interesting quirks. They kick back, have fun, and argue a lot. Some complications arise and spooky things start to happen.
There's no decisions or role-playing or control by the player at all. This is a visual novel through and through. So it's just tons and tons of text, really good 2-D character sprites, and my personal favorite soundtrack of all time.
If you're still unsure about buying this, get Chapter 1 of Higurashi and give that a quick read. It's short, it's not related to Umineko at all, but it shares some common themes and is another incredible Visual Novel written by the same dev/author. If you enjoyed Higurashi even a little bit, then i guarantee you'll absolutely LOVE Umineko.
This is my Top 1 piece of fiction ever. I haven't read or played anything with a story as engaging as Umineko, that made me laugh, cry, hate, love, vibe to the amazing soundtrack, and much more.
Truly, reading Umineko is both a blessing and a curse. A blessing in the sense that you'll read one of the best, if not the best story out there. And a curse, because once you enter the rabbithole that is Umineko, there's no way out, and it'll undoubtly consume many hours of your life. Hell, I can't even count with both of my hands the number of Let's Plays of Umi that I've watched on youtube, and it's kind of effing my social life too as I just can't stop rambling on about it to my friends that are just too stubborn to give this behemoth of a VN a chance (Bear in mind that this VN has over 100 hours of reading, and it's literally longer than the bible.)
But if you don't mind long stories and want to experience peak fiction, this is for you. Umineko is at its heart, a mystery novel, and in it, a bunch of rich people from the Ushiromiya family attend the annual family conference at the patriarch's own private island, Rokkenjima. Obviously, after they arrive, fun things start happening, like murders, lots of it. And it's for our protagonist (and you, the reader) to solve the mysteries presented to you.
I won't say anything more, because this story is something best experienced as blindly as possible. But if you're new to this VN, there's something I recommend you to do before reading: Install either 07th-mod or Umiproject, they're both ports from the console version of Umineko, which is a MUCH better version of this one, as it adds new and improved graphics, and also the amazing voice acting with seiyuus such as freaking Daisuke Ono as our protagonist, Battler. (Wait, is that a JoJo reference?)
Really, the voice acting in Umineko is top tier, as everything else is.
I've read a lot of VN, but not every ones are as perfect as Umineko.
Good story, good characters, good music. Even though it's 150 hours of reading, you'll wish it never ends.
There will always be a part in my heart for all those crazy theories I made. A game as gold as its witch.
