Opis
Ultimate General: Gettysburg is a Tactical Battle Simulator that allows you to lead thousands of soldiers in the famous Battle of Gettysburg as commander of either the Union or Confederate army. The game features the most accurately created map, complex morale, innovative control mechanics and smart AI. You have the freedom to use different strategies while the battle progresses. Your decisions and military performance play a crucial role in the result. Lead your army and win the Battle of Gettysburg!

It has been voted as Best Strategy Game of 2014 by PCGamesN.

Smart AI Commanders
Ultimate General: Gettysburg does not use “AI gameplay cheats” because it does not need them. The game’s difficulty is accomplished only by nine distinctive AI personalities, each with their own advantages and special skills. AI Commanders are able to evaluate and gain tactical superiority in real time, reacting according to their different commanding skills, aggressively or defensively, heroically or cunningly and resemble different, competent human players.

Each one of the AI generals is a formidable, non-scripted opponent who can actively try to flank you, secure strategic locations with artillery, keep reserves and reinforce areas that it attacks or defends. The AI will try to win the battle with tactics that fit to its personality. For example a defensive opponent may not attack ferociously in the first engagement and progressively advance its forces in the next battles.

What players say: “Fantastic AI - don't know what kind of brain you put in this game but it works”

Detailed Map of Gettysburg
Utilizing satellite images and historical maps, every major location, house, ridge and hill are depicted as accurately as possible within the game’s unique art style. If you are an American Civil War enthusiast, you will be especially happy to notice the amount of precision and information that the map provides. Not only will you be able to better understand the historical layout of the map, you will also be able to make use of each location and landmark in battle, thanks to the simulation of cover, concealment, terrain and high ground in the game.

What players say: “Incredible Gorgeous Map - I had to capitalize that because this map is by far one of the best maps of Gettysburg I have ever seen either in a game or even in books”

Numerous Tactical Factors
In Ultimate General: Gettysburg, you will realize that army units are not “machines” that blindly follow orders, but they need to conserve strength and courage for decisive battle actions. Every basic tactical element that is expected for a strategy game is incorporated into gameplay. Most importantly, morale is affected by many factors including flank or rear attacks, casualties, volley shocks, artillery fire and fatigue.

What players say: “... positioning of units matters. You really bring the struggles of 19th century warfare to life here”

Ultimate General: Gettysburg is developed by Game Labs and designed by Nick Thomadis, known for his successful and popular “DarthMod” series.
  • Lead thousands of soldiers as commander of either the Union or Confederate army vs 9 smart AI Generals.
  • Draw movement arrows to create maneuver and flanking paths as in old history books.
  • The battle is divided in phases and can last up to 4 days. You take strategic decisions that lead to countless speculative scenarios.

Really Good Civil War Game, But Not Perfect ..

GOG - The UG-Gettysburg download is 1.8. It needs - Patch v1.09 that finalizes game content and optimizes AI . This is a very tactical and difficult game, and is good for players who are interested in strategy and the American Civil War. It is not Sid Meier's Gettysburg. It is not a "Total War" game. Knowing the history of Gettysburg, battles, and generals; can be helpful. I've been playing this for awhile now and I really like it. This isn't an easy push over kind of game. Don't go into this game thinking you are going rush right in and quickly win all these battles. It doesn't work like that. Real life isn't fair and war isn't fair. You'll need to play better then the AI in order to win battles. Don't be afraid to pull you armies off the field. You'll lose, but you'll live to fight another day. You should go through the game's tutorials and instructions. Also check out the manual and Youtube for - Ultimate General Gettysburg: Beginner Tutorials. If you make the mistake of walking right at the enemy (especially in the open) you will "each and every time" be slaughtered for it. You have to think quickly and plan. You have to use smart tactics here. Press the P key (pause) press the M key and look at the lay of the land. Your artillery is no good down behind a hill and/or behind buildings. Make sure you supply wagons are fairly close to your armies. Within the circle to deliver supplies. Ultimate General: Gettysburg was developed by Game Labs and designed by Nick Thomadis, known for his successful and popular “DarthMod” series. Check out Youtube - Ultimate General Gettysburg: Darth vs Agrippa (GRAND BATTLE) Youtube user - Agrippa Maxentius. there are others also. Ultimate General: Gettysburg uses - Smart AI Commanders. The AI will try to win the battle with tactics that fit to its personality. For example a defensive opponent may not attack ferociously in the first engagement and progressively advance its forces in the next battles. You learn lots more about this at the UM-G's (home) webpage. You should check out the UG official forum support pages if you have issues, or would like to know what is going on with the game / games ... http://forum.game-labs.net/forum/65-ultimate-general-gettysburg/ Also check out out GOG's forum: https://www.gog.com/forum/ultimate_general_gettysburg#1503329598 and the Ultimate General Game Wiki. https://ultimategeneral.gamepedia.com/Ultimate_General_Gettysburg_Wiki Good Luck & Enjoy the game!

Clunky Controls, No Fun, Barely any Features in SP, Save your Money

As I bought this, I hoped I get into a fun, challenging and at least somewhat modern "War Game" type of game with a decent singleplayr campaign attached. To say that I am severely disappoitned is quite the understatement. I can take some janky-ness, I don't subscribe to the nnotion that every game needs to be some absolutely polished diamond of refinement and emergent systems, but THIS GAME IS SO FRUSTRATING. Not because of it's difficulty, which is my opinion based around the fact that the AI might be cheating in more or less minor ways, but I haven't looked into that, so let's say the AI is not cheating. So why is it frustrating? THE CONTROLS ARE TERRIBLE. I seriously can't remember a game that has frustrated me this much with it's handling of it's control scheme, and I play Arma 1-3 on a regular basis and even that is MILES better than this desaster of a control scheme. CAN'T EVEN CHANGE THOSE CONTROLS. Movement is janky, rotating units is a chore. YOU CAN'T BOX SELECT UNITS, you have to tediously draw doodle like circles around them, which leads to misselection of units. You have to spent SO MUCH TIME on simply managing that your unit is moving from one place to the next in the right direction/formation, which is not fun. Right off the bat you confrontated with difficult scenarios, with NO TUTORIAL MISSIONS attached, all you get is some videos showing you that you can click on a unit to select it (oh boy... thanks for the heads up Mr. Game Dev Sir!) and a link to a Wiki, no strategies, no mood pieces, no Fluff, no guidance. And on top of that MOST GAME SYSTEMS ARE as OPAQUE as an obsidian formation at sundown. Why are my men not charging? Probably because of Moral, or some other factor which is never explained in the game. Such important information is relagated to a small textbox in the upper left corner of the screen, with no apparent indicators anywhere else. And even that indicator tends to get FLOODED WITH GRAPHICAL ARTIFACTS of some kind. I have barely put a couple hours into this OVERPRICED MESS, of an UNDERWHELMING, FEATURE STARVED, barren wasteland of fun and I'm not willing to put up with this anymore. I'd rather read up on how to rewrite the entire Witcher 3 game in ACII characters (which is probably at least as fun, if not more) than to play this mess of a game. I really wanted to like this game. I really love war games like WH40k Rites of War, WH40k Armageddon, Panzer Corps etc. but this is one to avoid at all cost.

A reason to get the sequel

Great game, but not a lot of game time needed to win. At GOG prices, still worth a buy.

A flawed attempt.

I absolutely love UG: Civil War, which I played before playing this, and that is perhaps what makes Gettysburg's flaws so obvious and frustrating. THE GOOD: + The graphics hold up well and the art style is good. + It runs well, other than a few instances of tearing. (Ryzen 4800H, RTX 2060 Mobile, 16GB DDR4) + Sound effects add to immersion effectively. + The game makes good use of terrain bonuses... sometimes inconsistently however. + The AI can be set up with a variety of behaviours, altering difficulty but also their tactics which is good for simulating some 'what if' scenarios. + You can make tactical decisions at the end of a section of the battle, again helping with 'what if' scenarios. + A more realistic line of sight mechanic than in UGCW. + It doesn't simply drastically increase enemy numbers to make the game harder. THE BAD: - Movement controls make deploying units a chore. This isn't as much of a problem if you're deploying troops to form your attack/defensive lines but it is very apparent when attempting to alter troop positions. - Friendly units sometimes rout for no discernible reason. Units that are in reserve, near a general and safe shouldn't be routing. - AI is sometimes far too resistant to falling back or routing. AI units taking fire from both flanks and their front shouldn't be able to charge and somehow rout two of the units attacking them. - A lot of the game's difficulty comes from complications when responding to enemy actions, caused by the games movement controls. If this used the same controls as UGCW the game would be significantly easier. It's certainly a game that is likely to get better with experience. Getting more comfortable with the clunky and frustrating controls is likely to reduce difficulty and make trying different strategies more comfortable.

Tabletop Miniature Wargaming Sans Hassle

Great game. The artwork is absolutely beautiful. The AI is excellent. Battles unfold quickly and realistically. Control over your regiments is EXTREMELY limited. The AI is pretty good about switching from line to column formation for long marches, but you cannot switch from line to skirmish or double line. The game ignores regimental commanders and troop quality doesn't seem to be an issue. Routed units recover far too quickly. A replay function would be nice. The battle is broken into "episodes." Personally I would prefer a single large board battle. Overall this is one of the best Civil War battlefield sims I have ever played. It's not Sid Meier's Antietam... but it's close, and it's MUCH sexier.
