Ultima™ 8 Gold Edition

Thank you GOG, I can't wait to have some sleepless night playing this! As I32 says, this was with Wing Commander II, Syndicate and Strike Commander the first games I had on my D486DX2, they came on a single CD with the machine... These 4 gems are what made me a gamer!

I remember when I first got this game, and at the time I found it fantastically cool! It was so much to do in the world, so many items to interact with and so many people in the world to talk to. But that was also it, I never got far into the game (I blame my tender age, and the fact that I wasn't very good at English at the time), I mainly just ran around and tried to steal stuff, talk to people and just explore. At the time, that was well enough for me. And then, many years later when I decided to play it again, all of that old magic and sense of wonder was gone, the game felt broken. I couldn't find any of the old joys this time around, and I did feel a pretty deep sense of disappointment, because I'd always hyped it in my head since the first time I played it. Sooo, if I hadn't tried it again I'd give it a solid 5/5, but now, based on the disappointment and broken dreams from the second try, I can't really give it much more than a 2 star, and one of those stars are just there for sentimental reasons. :'(

It's not sooo bad. But it is / was buggy and had a bad performance. I would give it 0 Stars, but then there's still Ultima IX......Which would need to get -5 Stars when this Game gets 0 Stars. So I give this Game 3 Stars, just because Ultima IX is much more worse that U VII. Short: Story Good, GFX Good, but as many others said...IT was release way too early. R.I.P. , Ultima.

What can I say, this is the game that got me into loving computers! Back then I played this game with my 486DX2 machine with the glory of Sound Blaster. I think it didn't have any voiceover back then and it was quite difficult to get the sound working correctly. Unfortunately I did not get to finish the game before, thanks to GOG I'll be able to do this now :D. And best yet I'm sure like any other GOG games, this will work out of the box. I think this is one of the best games in the 90s regarding sound effects, music and graphics to some extend.

I don't know why this game gets such a bad rap. It is fun and I vastly prefer it to Ultima 7, having owned both. It is definitely a different game in a lot of ways and is maybe less rpg oriented. But honestly, the rpg elements of ultima have never been my favorite thing about those games, the worlds have. This is my favorite Ultima world. Sorry Britannia, you're boring.
