Read the description carefully

I read ‚dlc to Tyranny‘, which is a great game, and ‚new side stories‘ and bought the thing expecting to find more stories to experience like the dlcs to Dragon‘s Age or Pillars of Eternity. And was disappointed. When you read the description of ‚Tales from the Tiers‘ carefully, it is clear that there are no additional quests, but only 4 additions: the travel events, which usually only allow you to click on some images and usually result in a buff / debuff until the next rest or once in a while in a small fight with some loot. The ‚expanded story‘ is basically more reading material, but doesn‘t extend the story you experience. The ‚new items‘ add, as the expanded story, to the feeling of moving in a complex world, but basically it only adds to the loot table. Last and least: More replay options for those who don‘t want to start from scratch when you replay the game. If you like Tyranny like me, this dlc is a disappointment, because it only adds small stuff which didn‘t make it into the main game, probably because of time constraints. It does not add any substantial playable content and definitely feels more like a patch than a dlc. Given that the end of the main game feels so unsatisfactorily for many, this ‚dlc‘ is even more disappointing.

Nice Update, Not much of an Expansion

So why 4 starts? a) Developers did a fantastic job in adding to the game without distracting from the main story line. The DLC's for Pillars of Eternity were also great BUT they did require you to leave the main story line to return to it later. This is an improvement type DLC and it is well done. b) It adds in the areas where the original game was weakest giving you more options to influence NPCs and factions and making traveling on the map less mundane. c) It raises the general feel of the game so it is more on the same level as Pillars of Eternity. If you have not played the base game I highly recommend you get the game with this expansion. The game will feel far more complete while adding some very original mechanics with random encounters. Why Minus 1 Star? a) It is a small DLC BUT it does add to the game in the right places. b) I also agree that this could have probably been a free update or at least at a lower price but it has made the game more enjoyable and that is all I care about. c) The DLC might not offer enough for those who have played the game several times already so I recommend to get it if you are new to the game but think about it if you played it several times already. Note: if you are a BG or PT fan or liked Pillars of Eternity I would not hesitate to get Tyranny + the DLC.

I'd Buy That For A Dollar

Yeah literally. Just one dollar. That is all this expansion is worth. A dollar. Activision's lootboxes contain greater value than Tales from the Tiers What you're paying for are text boxes describing short inconsequential random encounters that are all uninteresting, un challenging, and un rewarding - and that should have been part of the base game anyway. This sorry excuse for an "expansion" offers nothing of value. I mean I cannot justify charging a cent for this on principle, but if it absolutely has to be paid for it can be worth no more than a buck.

Not a JRPG

While I had wished to do more at the end of the original game, for the very affordable price it was more than worth the beautifully crafted content it provided, it was the perfect length without all the extra chaf other RPGs pile on to add hours to a game. I am more than happy to spend a measly 7 bucks flesh out the experience even more. You are not going to enjoy this game if you like to grind or don't like to read. So far, I have enjoyed the extra content this DLC is providing immensely.

I really enjoyed the small additions from this DLC. The game looks more solid with them, random encounters are not only battle - you can meet some villagers, make some small decisions and get some prize, e.g. status effects which are quite valuable for battles. You should be aware that this DLC introduces more text, and all that events will start like text adventure. For me it's totally OK, as it is not needed to recreate every small scene with a 3D objects, just a description is enough. New game + feature is also cool, I waited for that and it works good. If you playing Tyranny for the first time, or you willing to try a different path - you should have this DLC. p.s. yes, all these features should be in the game from the start - but better late then never
