Tropico 3 Gold Edition

When Tropico 3 is working. It's still an expressive game with an incredible soundtrack that clearly builds off what the first games in the series did. Unfortunately getting it to actually work is a pain. I've experienced gfx crashes, the game asking for a serial key, freezes/failure to respond, the inability to select campaign levels, and failures to load menus. This need to do a lot of work to make an old game run seems to be a trend with the Tropico series. If you aren't up for that possibility, look for a different city builder. If you're confident you can make it work or wont' have issues, take the plunge into the tropican waters, presidente. Still 2/5 stars because you at least get the game's soundtrack

This is a great game, it was lot of fun playing it!

Used to work. Was a fun little game. Now I just get a black screen and then crash to desktop. Tried all the options and compatibility modes under right clicking and properties of desktop icon. Feel a bit ripped off.

TBQH I think it might just be me, I do seem to be going rather cold on the whole "SimCity" genre. Tropico 3 most definately is yet another "SimCity" no matter how you try to angle in it's more specialized tropical island / banana republic flavour. Like the original "SimCity", all it's sequels and almost all clones based upon it over the past 30 yrs, "Tropico 3" suffers from the "elephant in the room" they all share. That's in-game money, going down, down, down and down. It is very difficult to make a profit in this game, and lack of money stops you building your city as you wish. Once you get to even a "moderate" sized city you will also begin feeling you are losing control, things just won't seem to work as intended/expected and frustration mounts. I found road building, and trying to place some buildings, was also a complete pain in the arse! I just could not "get into it" and was bored after 24 hours. Sorry, not for me.
