Seems to Work Well Now

I played this after the last patch had come out and don't remember any big bugs at all. I liked the original's art style a lot and did initially get a bit of a rash from the new style, but soon forgot it had ever been changed. The new/remixed music works perfectly fine. I also didn't really mind the controls so much, though comboing certain actions takes practice for sure. There's differences in the gameplay, specifically puzzles and boss fights, but also other areas have been redesigned so there's certainly reason to replay it even if you played Treasure Adventure Game. I wrote an expanded review of this on Home of the Underdogs, which is a non-profit site so I hope you don't mind if I link to that one (wouldn't fit here anyway). Inferior to the original

Hoooooo boy where to start with this one. This game is a complete redo of the original free ware game "Treasure Adventure Game" and let me tell you........... Go play "Treasure Adventure Game" instead of this redo. For starters the first thing that you will notice is that this game was not designed for PC controls in mined because it seems to be really wonkey as fuck. Another issue you will run into with this game is that this game despite it's time and effort put in is still a chuckle fish game which means that this game is Buggy as fuck! When this game is not working as intended expect to run into a lot of bugs and a couple of crashes just for extra frustration. When it is working, you can tell alot of time and effort was put into this game. This game metroidvania style is complimented by it's puzzle mechanics. The boss fights are as every bit as fun and in some cases, not afraid to kick your teeth in. The story is how you would remember it from the original game as you are some kid who gets amnesia and must collect 12 treasures while also figuring out who you are. Where the fuck are your parents? Maybe you'll find out. not exactly original to say the very least but its a decent story that is sprinkled by huge amounts of lore. That being said, down to the reason i would not recommend fans or newcomers to buy this game. The biggest problem with this game is the impact that the visuals. once intimidating enemies which could honestly terrify some people if your afraid of the dark, are PGafied as you go from slime worm with thousands of teeth to chew you with to a blob. Never is this more problematic then towards the end where shit gets dark. This kid straights up murders 2 people in self defense in TAG and it is fucked up. In world? meh, they just blow up "poof". The final boss gets hella downgraded from intimidating demon to intimidating surfer. Not to mention the final boss fight overstays it's welcome in world bogging down to an unsatisfying ending.

Sigh.

Ho boy. Another heap of wasted potential. Yeah it's one of THOSE games. Games that could have been fantastic had they had a guiding professional hand...or a couple more years in development. This game makes me sad the same way Creepy Castle and Wuppo did. The basic concept is good but it's bogged down by poor gameplay and design failures. The very first thing you'll feel off are the controls. They somehow manage to be floaty and heavy at the same time. You drop like a rock when you fall. And your character does that Mario thing, you don't stop dead on after letting go of the run button, you move just a bit further...You have to turn immediately to the opposite side that you were facing to not fall off ledges or run smackdab into enemies. I always hated this movement choice in Mario games, it's not doing this game any favors either. As for combat, it's stiff and awkward. You have a single attack to start with, just a simple slash with your hook. Not exactly graceful or fluid. The graphics are nice but won't blow you away. Same with the soundtrack. And the writing. And the characters. All of it is just alright without being noteworthy. On a positive note, exploration is certainly the main goal and it does do that part right. Many sidequest and tons of secrets to uncover. So you will have many hours of content. However too many little annoyances that add up will most likely make the game more of a slog than enjoyable in the end. If you are a more patient person than I am and don't mind design hiccups, you may still get your money's worth out of Treasure Adventure World. If you're short on cash, skip this one, spend it on Hollow Knight, Shantae or Owlboy instead. Heck, I'd even recommend Ori over this.

True Adventure

Well, this is a great game full of adventure, mystery and peril. Never played the freeware version but decided to buy this one to support the developers. And I never though it would by that good.

Poor display support

I have a TV connected to my PC as a second monitor where I play platformers like this. Unfortunately this game has some pretty crappy display settings. First it doesn't support normal windowed mode (only borderless), doesn't support 4k or wide screen and, won't allow itself to be fullscreen on a second monitor, switching itself back to my main monitor when fullscreen is turned on. Most games have no issue with this
