Your new local multiplayer obsession

A fantastic and addictive RTS in the styling of classics like warcraft and command and conquer Tooth and Tail breathes new life into the genre with a mix of well thought out mechanics, colorful graphics and a very tight control scheme that translates extremely well to a game pad. Tooth and tail's unique hook is that your traditional RTS "cursor" is actually a character that you will have to move around the map to build structures and command units. This "cursor" brings a very competent level of control to the game, using the limitations of the game pad to focus the game on the core strategies inherent to the genre instead of the ridiculous min/max actions per minute level of proficiency that is required in games like starcraft. Tooth and Tail is a great value for both local and online multiplayer and the game includes the expected if not all that revolutionary campaign with a satisfying level of challenge and depth. Tooth and Tail does have some issues with balance but hopefully these issues can be ironed out. This is a great way to spend some time gaming on a couch with friends.

I give up and pocketwatch wins.

This is almost impossible. I wanted to like this game, I love the idea of streamlining the rts genre into it's most basic parts. I thought this game would be better for an entry level rts player as that's the impression I get from their marketing. In my experience, I gave up on the second character. the enemy was able to outnumber me dozens to one in minutes, mounting a relentless assault each and every time, destroying most or all of my soldiers and, in the time it took me to create 2 or 3, they would have dozens again. I guess I don't undestand the genre but to be honest, I don't even want to anymore. this will likely be the last rts I play and definately the last pocketwatch game I play.

False binding of keys

What a joke, after 2 years this game can't bind keys, the option is false. Say you have a french keyboard, you bind the good keys, you play and it's like you had did nothing.

A fast-paced RTS experiment

To be honest: if you interested in a slow and chill RTS, then this is not your game. But for me, Tooth and Tail is an interesting multiplayer RTS experience. As mentioned by other reviewers, it is a fast-paced one, with a not to be underestimated tactical component. You have to look constantly at your incoming and outcoming balance, look at what is happening on the map, and to decide, which unit is more worth recruiting. Despite the fact, that shortly after the release of the game, it was more like a Zerg-rush simulator, devs put a lot of effort into balancing the game over the last years. And for me, it is never really that stressful. Games are done very quickly ( 10 to 20 minutes in my experience) and so you can try out different strategies, ideas, or change your unit rooster very quickly to see, what works, and whatnot. The controlling scheme is unusual because it is mainly designed to play it with a controller. But it is well realized. The only really flaw for me, is the single-player campaign. It is mainly there to introduce different units. The story is interesting but the presentation is mainly over textboxes. And the difficulty in some missions is really frustrating. And one pro is, you can play it with your friends via split-screen. And which RTS you can play split-screen ;)

Really sharp cutscenes

The good: Really sharp cutscenes Other: Graphics are not complex, so the graphics card should not matter much. Controls seem like they are made for a controller, and mosty adapted for keyboard/mouse. The controls are strange for an RTS. Move the commander mouse somewhere, then select the type (or all) of troops to follow. Newly trained/bought units immediately follow the commander mouse, and go there directly, even if the commander has snuck up around back of the enemy, the new ones go direct.
