Thrillville®: Off the Rails™ lives up to its name with 20 death-defying rides so outrageous, they inspire the same word from every park visitor who sees them: “WHOA!” Players build these incredible “WHOA Coasters” to leap from one track to another, launch through the air like cannonballs, blast through a burning ring of fire and more.
But the new fun doesn’t stop there. Off the Rails features 34 playable multiplayer minigames, 15 all-new theme areas, over 40 thrill rides, a new story that ties together more than 100 missions, and social interaction with park guests that’s better than ever. The in-depth conversations both advance the plot and suggest better ways to manage the park. But is every guest to be trusted?
Experience the visceral fun of interacting with a theme park you create.
Build and ride your own creations, talk and joke with all your guests, and play dozens of minigames.
Visit 15 themed areas, like Battleville, Winterville, Spaceville and Aeroville, all spread throughout five new parks.
Create 20 death-defying WHOA Coasters such as:
Hotrod Stunt - A nitro boost propels a car across a broken track.
Pendulizer - A giant arm grabs the car just before a gap in the track, whips it around in a full circle, then sets it down on the other side.
Escape Drop - The track holds the car stationary as it lifts itself from level ground to a full 90-degree drop. Then it lets go.
Distinguish your rides even more with enhanced customization options. Attach animatronics, flowers and flaming hoops to all of your coasters and rides.
Play 34 minigames – 14 new, 20 returning from the original Thrillville but with new levels.
I'm not entirely sure why I've loved this game all these years. It doesn't have the depth of Rollercoaster Tycoon or the customization of something more modern like Planet Coaster but what it does have is charm and nostalgia. The charm comes from the fact that the game is built around having fun. Sure there are some repetitive parts of the overall package but the majority of what you get to play is just plain fun. The nostalgia part of the package comes from how the game seems stuck in the era it was made in. Weird gaming trends don't show up and the soundtrack is very much of the early 2000's and enhances the overall experience substantially.
It's probably not a game I would sit and play hours and hours of in one sitting but as something with a chill and fun attitude, its always been something I go back to when I'm looking for some stress free fun.
Technically speaking, the game is a mix of mini-games together with a very simplified theme park manager and some small "extras", like talking with people. And it works surprisingly well.
I never was a big fan of theme park managers and I was sceptical if this game will be fun for me. Fortunately, it turns out that aspects of managing the park are minimalistic and don't require your constant attention. This leaves you a lot of time to play with visitors in mini-games, train crew (3 types of mini-games) and make missions - focused of course on mini-games, plus some other stuff, like talking, building etc.. I love the variety of mini-games, most of them are simple, quite fun and easy to learn.
It's an ideal title for relax and playing without the rush. There is some "main plot" and set of missions allowing to finalize it, but the game doesn't put any pressure on it. It's entirely up to you and I like it. Of course, finishing that "main plotline" won't take too long, but it will be fun.
Sadly, I admit that the game has a couple of problems. Some mini-games have a surprisingly uncomfortable way of control - such as the alley-ball. I still don't get it entirely, how the player is supposed to control the direction and power of throw. Some games (like mini-game for all stalls, inspired by games like bust-a-move) don't use the mouse at all, despite being ideal for this kind of controller. There are occasionally some glitches, (I've experienced one, during playing Bandito Chinchilla, where the enemy kept walking in the same place, where I could not reach because the screen didn't scroll further). Some mechanics are not even explained (like special/super moves for trampolines).
It's a shame that we have only a local multiplayer - a big amount of mini-games is available in separate multiplayer mode, it would be great to play them with people around the world.
But I still highly recommend this game. Especially if you need to rest from more tough and serious titles.
i love this game! i played it on the wii and rememeber loving the magagement sim and the cartoony feel for the game. the game hardly lags and the controls are alrighty. now i just have to remember the tricks to win
I've had Thrillville: Off the Rails for Xbox 360 for many years and it's the version I base my judgment on, so I'm not sure of the technical quality of this PC port.
This game is really fun and offers a wide variety of things to do, mostly in the form of minigames. It's not so much a game about micromanaging a park for maximum profit like in games such as Roller Coaster Tycoon, but more of a casual, arcadey experience where you can just have a good laid-back time. You can build coasters and place rides (and ride them!) but the overall feel is different to other park games.
On a personal note, my brother's favorite part of this game (and the other game in its series) was always the minigolf and the ability to build your own courses, which is always fun. My favorite is the hat/drink/food stalls which let you play a funny Bust-A-Move clone. Other memorable highlights are race tracks, a beat-em-up arcade game where you play as a Chinchilla wearing boxing gloves, and even a janitor minigame that has you sucking up trash with a vacuum.
A fun and unique game!
This isn't half the game the original Thrillville was. Cute, but grows repetitive very quick. I don't own the GOG version, but had it on the 360. Give us the original, or drop the price 50%. Otherwise, no sale.
